Hi everyone,

I have a very nice manual 2012 987 Cayman S with pretty much every option on it which has been an unbelievably good car. Fancy a change now so these are the options:

£45k to spend on either:
981 Cayman S
981 Boxster S (summer is coming) - only problem I have found is that its really tough to find one with decent spec

OR

Borrow some money and spend £65k on either:

new 718 Boxster S (not sure about the 4pot so test driving one on the 25th)
used V8 Vantage (although bit worried about it being a money pit)
used R8 roadster

Any thoughts from people who have driven these? Or anything else I've missed...

No no no to the alternatives (981/718) unless you can stretch to a gt4/981spyder i would keep it!
I had a 987.2 spyder and bought a gt4 but if I hadn't I would have looked for a 987.2 Cayman 3.4 or a 997.2 /S/GTS manual of course but never a 981 and never ever a 718!

Actually if you fancy a change and a soft top you cannot go wrong with a 987 spyder and £45k buys you a good one!

Don't buy an Aston. I did and it cost £1,000 a month. Neighbour's Vantage was off the road for three months with a gearbox issue. Got rid and went Gallardo.

Tried a 981? I preferred it to the 987.2, so bought a 981.

Yeah I have driven one and it was a lot of fun.. worth looking at although I will always be looking at the new spider and thinking how much better it looks than mine!

I had my vantage for 2 years with no major issues. They don't have chocolate engines either.

Actually kind of glad someone else has said that as a friend told me the same. Guess its one less option to think of.

There is only one car I'd change my 987.2 for and its a Cayman GTS...I'am kicking myself for not going and ordering one.

At a push my outside choice would be an F-Type 3.0 S

Any reason a 911 is not part of the shortlist? Might I suggest at least test driving one?

Haha no I've still got it - they still have the original advert up from well over a year ago. Bought it jan 2015

I think OP is suggesting this is the ad from which he purchased the car, and that it's still up more than a year after he acquired the vehicle.

I reckon past tenths is about 8/10ths. OP must easily be at 10/10ths now. biggrin

I drove a 911 and a Cayman on the track right after each other and I just preferred the Cayman. Although could be convinced by a turbo...

strange why an advert would be up for 15 months after sale or is this how certain dealers roll?

I'd hate to be that guy, but you really should spend more time with a 911. It takes more effort, thought and practice to get everything out of it, but the rewards are ample and, in my humble opinion, out of reach of what cars like the Cayman can offer. More in, more out.
