Currently a 987.2 Boxster owner, it's taken me quite a while (45 soon - eeek), and quite a number of cars to realise that a quicker car (on paper anyway) isn't always the answer.

For example, my previous car (Audi S3 8V S-tronic) would have, in most circumstances, romped away from my current car, in any gear. 6th gear, 50 mph, foot down and away we go. The Boxster however needs revs, so would have needed a change (or 4 lol) down, to howl away.

But that is precisely why I love it, use the gears, listen to the wonderful noise, more work but more pleasurable. The S3 was pretty dull to be honest. How a 300 BHP car can be dull, I don't know. 300 BHP in my first Scooby UK turbo would have been fun, with a capital F.

Anyhoo, back on topic, why is it that I am finding myself attracted to spec'ing up a 718 basic spec Cayman manual with the new 4 pot washing machine at the back, when I wouldn't consider a 718 Boxster at all ????

no idea I have no wish for the 981 let alone the 718.

Oh David. You really can be an odd fellow. I think everyone is pretty clear on your opinions by now. Maybe give the other kids a chance to play with the ball.

Either car would IMO be brilliant value for money. There's IMO unlikely to be anything at the price point to touch them. Shopping cars with big engines just aren't my thing and the Porsche chassis is brilliant.

Didn't you buy a 981 GT4?
