Hi,

I recently purchased a 2004 986 S with the Carrera Alloys, it was purchased privately knowing that at some point I would refurb the wheels, there not too bad but just want a freshen up - at the weekend I noticed one was slightly buckled, flat spot between 2 spokes - I've asked the question as to whether it can be repaired but worst case I may need to source a new wheel - so my question is are the 996 Carrera wheels the same fitment? I've done a few google searches and it looks as though 18" wheels on the boxster (front) were 7.5x18 and the 911 8x18, some say they are the same... I will have a look when I get home but thought someone might know here.

Thanks

Tom

Nope 986 wheels are narrower, 996 4s are even wider still.

show me on here:

http://www.944racing.de/wheelweights.php

...but in 18" and depending on the exact wheel you are talking about...

996.1 and 986.1 had 7.5J fronts.

996.2 had 8J fronts

996.1 and 996.2 had 10J rears

986.1 had 9J rears - dunno about the 986.2

(if you are being picky yes the WB cars could have 11J rears)

Boxster is 7.5 x 18 ET50
8 x 18 ET52

996 is 8 x 18 ET50
10 x 18 ET65

So sizes and offsets different.

Hope this helps

Rob

(you have a typo on the 986 rear - it's a 9J)

....as long as the OP is talking about this wheel:

Yes, they are the ones...

So if I need a replacement I need to find a 7.5j - not the 8's (off a 996) that are currently advertised on eBay as Boxster fitment...

Almost certainly, if you have 7.5Js on the car - don't forget that there is a chance that either type may have been fitted by a previous owner.

Width and offset are stamped either side of the tyre valve.

Yeah I have seen the stamp on the ones I've been looking at - will check it out this evening - I only have pics of the car on my phone but when I zoom in the stamp becomes too blurred.
