Buying Cayman GTS
Discussion
Hi, I know there is a long thread, but thought a fresh one might yield a better result!
I'm keen to get myself a Cayman GTS and have a few things I need some advice on.
I would love manual with sports chassis, BUT will never track the car......would the sports chassis be silly for everyday use?
What options are desirable on these cars....what wheels too?
Any advice you could give me about values of cars, where/how to buy, would be great.....I just want to be fully informed before I take the Porsche plunge!!
Regards,
Jazzer

Sports chassis - you really need to try both. Sports chassis (X73) is favoured by many - but you will find that those with PASM will say it gives you the best of both worlds - a super ride in Normal mode and and a sporting one in Sport. I have PASM and think it is terrific.
Re wheels - 20" are standard so the options are just a matter of aesthetics and personal preference.

My previous GTS was PASM (I bought second hand), my current one is X73 (I spec'd from new). For me X73 can be a little crashy compared to PASM around town; the PASM has a superior ride in this instance, but I much prefer the lower look the X73 gives and I prefer it slightly during more spirited driving. So I guess it really depends on how you will use the car and what matters most to you. In any case, take the plunge, they are really fantastic cars.
EDIT: Just FYI I use(d) both as my primary car.

WRT options, this is a matter of personal taste. A few of the more desireable ones, however, appear to be communication management (PCM), lightweight bucket seats, alcantara head lining and carbon interior pack.
Alcantara head lining/wheel/seats are standard on the GTS. They can be optioned out for full leather though, so check each car carefully if that matters to you.PASM gets my vote for an all round car, X73 if you only want to thrash it everywhere on smooth roads e.g. track duties, but then I wouldn't buy a GTS as a track car. Each to their own and all that!
For an all round car parking sensors, air-con, cruise control and a stereo upgrade are all worthwhile.
Thank you for the comments and suggestions.
Not being able to compare cars/options by driving them is a problem!
I'd love manual with the sports chassis for my weekend disappearing acts, but will probably go for PASM, with manual, if I can.
I know these are sports cars, but no phone or music streaming on some....what's that about??

It's because (pretty much uniquely) Porsche used to charge silly amounts of money for those things as extras - and some are prepared to say "up yours" to Porsche. The 718 and 911 do now have them as standard.AndyCGTS said:
In my opinion the must haves for the GTS should be:
X73
PTV
Carbon Buckets
PCCB
ACC
GTS Interior Package.
PCM
DAB
Telephone Module
Depending on where you are in the country you're welcome to look around mine.
X73 - tickX73

PTV - tick
Carbon Buckets - tick
PCCB - tick
ACC - not available on a manual
GTS Interior Package. - tick
PCM - tick
DAB - didn't bother, not much reception where I am and I listen to my ipod all the time.
Telephone Module - standard where I am.
I would also add:
Bose (Burnmeister (sp?) too dear)
Smoker package to cover the odd looking spot and get an extra power outlet.
Dimming mirror and rain sensor
Keyless entry and drive
Leather steering column casing (cause it is cheap and looks classy)

I think you guys are confusing "must haves" or "desirable options" with "what I specced on mine"

- X73, buckets and PCCB are only worthwhile if you want a track car IMHO.
- PTV is desirable, as it affects handling and gives you a LSD. Not essential though.
- Manual or PDK is personal preference.
- As I said earlier parking sensors, air-con, cruise control and a stereo upgrade are all worthwhile.
- The rest, such as wheels/PCM/interior/paint colour etc are all cosmetic and personal preference.

But everybody's personal spec is always the best!

I could list the rest of what's on mine

, I just listed the must haves for myself. Like all these subjects, everyone is different so there isn't a correct answer. However, a few basics like PCM, Telephone, 2 Zone AC, Park Assist F&R are basic must haves IMO. It’s the beauty of being able to buy a new car but the curse of buying one second hand which has all the buyers requirements.Twinfan said:

+1 It's very much affected by how you use the car. If you do a lot of town parking sensors/camera are a good idea (I'd say essential). If you park on the street, folding mirrors, rear wiper. Drive bad roads regularly, or have a wife who isn't into cars - PASM. Don't like washing cars - avoid black.
