986 S MY2000 rattling sound (pic attached)
Discussion
Hi chaps,
For the last couple of weeks I've had a rattling sound from the rear, seemed more noticeable at low revs for some reason, a very tinny sound. I think I've finally identified where it's coming from and have attached a pic. The bracket where the arrow is pointing to is very loose, however I'm not sure what this part is called or indeed what it's purpose is (in case I need it replaced)? Would anyone be able to shed any light as to whether this is a common problem and what this errr 'bit' is called?

Thanks!
Matt

Had this with mine. As I moved the heat shield by hand, the bolt and retaining clip fell out and was very rusty. I didn't have a new one, so I've been running it without that bolt for the past few days.
I thought the noise would be worse... but it isn't, doesn't make a sound now it's fallen out!

I had this exactly the same (2000, 986, 2.7), recently actually posted even the sound, was scary-rattle in my small garage with an echo! Once we found the loose shields/bolts my garage checked everything else was in good order, I think it fell later on, no noise now.
I will replace the cats and muffler soon, 17 years none of them replaced and I can hear some more rattles when its cold by hitting with rubber
