D.Telegraph 718 Cayman S Review
Discussion
Interesting review of the 718 Cayman S in Saturday's Daily Telegraph .
The Reviewer Andrew English finishes with the comment ..." The abiding impression is that something has been lost ; some of the purity , single-mindedness,some of the heart ".
However ...of more importance he adds ..... A measure of Porsche's commitment to it's new engine is that it has promised that all the more focused GT models WILL KEEP THE NATURALLY- ASPIRATED SIX-CYLINDER UNIT .
So I take that to mean that the future 718 Cayman / Boxter GTS & GT4 Models will keep the Flat 6.
Could this be true ? Can anyone confirm this rumour ?
I will try to contact this Reviewer to see where he obtained this gem of information !

At the risk of getting involved in a 'selective quoting' competition, the review is generally positive from a well respected, objective motoring journalist.
THE most telling part of the piece, however, is the final paragraph, the summation of the article.
'The 718 Cayman S is deeply impressive - but unfortunately its predecessor was more impressive still'

Do we think that this includes the next Boxster Spyder?
I would think so. The N/A engine will require some adaptations, even though we know that Weissach was involved in the design of the base 718 (982) to make sure that a N/A engine would indeed fit. Those adaptations will be very similar between a new GT4 and Spyder, so it is in Porsche's best interest to spread the costs across two models. Economies of scale.
Rumours are that the 991.2 GT3 is getting a newly developed 4.0L engine.
By the time the 718 GT4 is coming out they won't offer any cars with the old basic 3.8L 9A1 engine anymore. In fact I think they already stopped producing them now?
So they'll use what's on the shelf, again to use synergies between models and bring down prices via numbers, and the only N/A option left will be a version of the 991.2 GT3 engine.

Ladies and gentlemen, place your LOIs now!
