Been testing the insurance water too on my 718 Cayman S. I am of a similar age and Direct Line were overpriced and, if I recall, required a tracker so the latter ruled them out let alone the price.
Get on the comparo websites - should come out around £400 fully comp, NCD protected ( 10 years NCD for me) and £500-650 excess. Then protect your excess with a standalone policy to pay out in case the worse happens - this should cost about £50 for the year.

I know we don't get our cars for a few months, but has anybody got any ideas on insurance costs ?? Direct line giving me a quote on line for Cayman S @ £575 I'm 59 and one accident in company vehicle but no convictions. I know quotes vary immensely but anybody any thoughts ???
My Directline quote was .... £ 1,326 and Saga quote ... £ 1,951 Due to London Postcode and not kept in a brick garage .
However my renewal was £ 895 with Classicline ( + £ 100 on last year )
I'm quoting for a 2.0 rather than a S, but I'm in a similar situation to you in that I have one non-fault accident in a company car, but have 8 years NCB in my personal car.
I'm 30 and live in the grim North and am getting quotes around £700-£800.
One thing I was wondering if people can clarify.... does the 718 come with a Tracker as standard?
I've seen reference to PVTS which appears to be fitted to most Porsches' but I'm not sure which tracker option I should be selecting when running insurance quotes?

Saga was reasonable for me. Also it's new for old for the first two years which saves on GAP insurance.
If the policy is not return to invoice or invoive plus you might get a nasty shock i.e. base car price 50k and 12k options added giving invoice price if 62k. If you make a successful claim then Saga buys you a new base car for 50k or coughs up the 50k in the cash. Definitely worth asking for a written statement from Saga defining the exact terms if this is of any relevance to you financially and, if not, it may be to others.
