Hi All.

I've just got home after collecting my BGTS from the OPC. Amongst other things I got them to fit the gear shift turret from the GT4/Spyder. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! It looks better (because it's shorter), it's easier to get to the radio/cd controls (because it's shorter) and the shift is so much nicer. The shift action is not noticeably heavier (basic physics says it must be but I can't tell) and feels so much nicer to use. If I was being picky I'd say that it can occasionally feel a bit more "notchy" than the original but I don't mind that and it rewards more when you get the rev match just right. The original gear shift boot even fits although if you look you can tell that there is more leather there than is needed.

In short, just as it should have been from the factory! As mods go this is cheap (change from £180 for the part and 1 hour to fit if that) and well worth while.

Just thought I'd share

Kevin

Note that a shorter lever means gear changes can be made more quickly and it is often said this can cause early transmission failure due to "rushing the synchros".

You could well be right but if it's good enough for the GT4/Spyder (same 'box I believe)then I'm not too worried. I don't slam gear changes home anyway. It's all about the way the shift feels. Each to their own.

Parts prices are in my original post. The book time for fitting is about an hour. I believe it's relatively easy to fit if you're careful removing the trims. There's quite a lot of coverage on "Planet 9" in the USA. Note there are two separate threads on the conversion, one of which gives a detailed description of what's involved. For reasons that I won't go into, I wish I'd done it myself!

Thanks for the pics.

It is noticeably shorter, which was what I was wondering about.

WRT Gear changes any real difference?

Thanks for that.......I went a bit nuts with "Exclusive". Pi$$ take pricing but I love the result and life's too short!!!

It just feels markedly more precise and has a much shorter throw. It obviously also amplifies any notchyness you have in the gear action and the weighting increases but not appreciably. I love it!
