I have recently become the proud owner of a 2006 Boxster 987 2.7 (my first Porsche) running on OE 17" rims.

Since I am based in Malta and given the (bad) state of the roads on the island, I have decided to stick with the 17" rims.

Current tyres are Conti Sport Contact 2 that are way past there best before date and need urgent replacement.

Front tyres are 205/55 and the rear are 235/50

The replacement options available are:

Michelin Pilot Sport PS2;
Continental Sport Contact 3;
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric;
Yokohama Advan Sport V105;

The Michelin, Continental and Goodyear (all Porsche N-Spec tyres and initially my preference) are great tyres but have been around for a while now and have all been super-seeded by various generations of newer tyres from each of the 3 premium brands.

The Advan on the other hand is a far more recent tyre, and therefore I was wondering whether with the advances made in tyre design and construction, if the Advan Sport V105 could actually be the better tyre of the 4 and therefore the one I should opt for?

Has anybody tried the Yokohama Advan Sport V105 on a 987 Boxster or Cayman?

Would appreciate any comments.

105s are pretty good. They are likely to have a significantly stiffer sidewall than the others. Good for turn in but maybe not ideal for comfort on less than optimum roads.

Many thanks for your pointers which were all greatly appreciated. After my research, your suggestions and reading the latest EVO 2016 Tyre Test I decided give the Yokohama Advan Sport V105S a try. Will keep you updated on how things proceeds once on the car.

You might find this comparison interesting. http://www.evo.co.uk/features/18309/the-best-tyres... The Yokohama comes out as a very good all rounder.

Really don't know how that happened - bizarre.

Had the Yokohama's on the car for about two weeks now, and although still early days, I am very impressed with the Advan Sport V105.

A marked improvement in ride comfort and steering response are my initial impressions.

Will post further updates once I get some more miles on them, but if first impressions are anything to go by the Yoko's were a great choice.
