Who's had a claim on 981 under "extended warranty"?
Discussion
It has been fashionable for PH to fret about engine failures, and we know that over the past 15 years there have been times when Porsche engine issues have arisen.
Porsche UK must be making a small fortune raking in cash from customers for warranty extensions. I forget the price they wanted to charge but I do remember I turned it down.
Has anyone actually needed to make a claim after the initial 3 year warranty has expired? And if so, for what?

I've always purchased the Porsche extended warranty when the new car one runs out, call it peace of mind! It's not cheap -debatable how much Porsche or their dealers make out of it - but it doesn't take much to go wrong with a Porsche to exceed what the premium costs.
Main downside is you have to stick to buying OEM parts, no fitting non OEM batteries, sports exhausts etc, strictly not allowed.
Best to buy 2 years though, only one multi point inspection ( not required at the end of year 1) and slightly cheaper pro rata. Combining renewal with a service also helps as many of the checks are also part of the service so savings to be had there too.

Under an extended Porsche warranty, I have also had the pedal bush replaced for the "sticky brake thingy" plus a replacement interior climate fan.
The total costs for the 2 repairs on my 981 would have been virtually the cost of the 1 year warranty so I have recouped the cost together with an unquantifiable peace of mind.
The current warranty expires in 3 weeks. A 1 year extension costs £660 and 2 year is £1190. It is decision time!

Had a Boxster which went into limp mode a few times. Each time various diagnostics run and parts replaced. Eventually the wiring loom (or maybe part of it?) was replaced and that fixed it. Then one of the amps started making a loud farting noise and that was also replaced. All done under warranty without any quibble and cost several £k in one year.
Have had the cover on other Porsches and seemingly small problems can easily end up costing a year's warranty cost.

Does that include the inspection?b2tus said:
The 111 point inspection should be (I think) £180+VAT but have managed to wangle it for free as having car serviced at same time. (also got service discounted too)
Did you shop around, as yours is way cheaper than nsm3 even without the 111 included?Mine's out of warranty May'17 but worth thinking ahead.
OPC warranty is well worth having. Much easier to claim on than a 3rd party warranty and is peace of mind if you can transfer the balance on resale. I made a claim on one car even though I was selling it as a trader. Only a door handle fault but the fault was fixed no quibble and the car returned cleaned and valeted the best day. I was even offered a courtesy car although it was a 2 week wait.

Doesn't sound like the warranty is worth it on a 981 to me, no-one seems to be saying they've claimed for anything big other than the partial wiring loom mentioned earlier. At the best part of £2000 for two years cover I think I'd rather put the money aside instead.
Yes, and I note the wiring loom issue mentioned is in relation to a "Boxster" as opposed to a "981" so we can't be sure what car it was. Various other issues mentioned have also been "not 981" and some of the 981 issues have been within the 3 year manufacturer warranty. I think the pedal bush is a recall/rectification rather than anything which would need warranty. All in all it sounds a pretty clean bill of health.
not a 981, but a 991GT3
I had a rather nice warranty claim earlier this year - a new engine !
totally hassle free - and when the extended warranty runs out next July, I'll be taking it out again.
The dealer showed me the cost of the new engine + parts to fit - it was in excess of 45K, and that was including the rebate for sending the old (broken) engine back.
