The thread about possible extended warranty claims seems to have presented a clean bill of health for cars which are now up to 4 years old.

So here's a follow-up. Has anyone had anything go wrong with a 981? (Ignore recalls/dealer rectifications)

All I've had in 4 years is a puncture!

Mine's going in this Friday to have driver's door speaker buzzing investigated. Thought I'd better get it done whilst under warranty.

Otherwise, just the hundreds of micro stone chips on all four Carrera S Platinum wheels at 13k miles. PGB paid out compensation toward a re-furb for these a while ago, but would not admit liability.

Absolutely nothing, I've had three and all have been faultless...but ti be honest the same has been true of all of my Porsches apart fromn the first one which was a 944Turbo, that was a bag of C..p but great to drive when it wasnt broken. Maybe I've been lucky having owned 997's and 987's with their "plasticine" engines.

Seems to me these cars are coming up with a stunningly clean bill of health.

The rear spoiler on mine came loose to the point of almost falling off but seemed like an easy fix.

It was also in and out of the dealer a couple of times for warranty work to rectify a Cooling System Fault" message that was caused by one of the vacuum pipes for the PSE flaps coming off somewhere. Same vacuum system as the coolant valves that close off the radiators.

Interesting. The 718 I was recently given as a service loan car was showing a "cooling system fault" in the dashboard display as soon as I picked it up. I wasn't going far so just kept an eye on engine temperatures that day. There was no warning light showing.

Mentioned this when I returned the car, still showing the fault on the dash display, but they didn't immediately recognise what the issue might be.

The biggest issue with 981 cars is you realise that every other car out there is expensive and unnecessary in comparison. If I didn't have a need for 4 seats I'd have a Cayman GTS all day long, it's painful that I paid almost half again over the Cayman to have a 911 GTS to enable me to get the kids in the back!!!

I've owned or driven just about every car I've wanted to and I still look back on my Cayman S and Cayman GTS and know I had more fun in them than just about anything else.

Well DMC2, I'm very impressed by the list of your previous cars.
And what you are saying about the 981 compared to what you have driven says a lot to people who don't fully understand the virtues of the 981s ability.
For me this is a comfort, even though I only bought the 2.7 manual, I find myself fully immersed in my car when ever I go out in it, and racing yellow just looks fantastic.

Forgot to add..... Trouble free so far after two months.......!!

Thankyou for that.

Gadgit.

So true.

A 981 feels like all I really need, personally.

I'd love a 458 spider but personally can't justify cash tied up in one, and it'll be less useable 80% of the time as a car and probably tempt me into trouble speed wise...

Now that the 718 is down to 4 cylinders and makes you less aware of the speeds you're doing due to the soundtrack etc, a flat six powered 981 feels like more of a keeper than ever.

The only major thing I'd change about the 981 Spyder if I had to pick one, would be the long 1st/2nd/3rd gear ratios.

Trim rattles and squeaks only covered for two years, not three, I found out today. mad

Only issue I had was stones trapped in the disc shields.

Wow, if you're the first owner and are dealing with the OPC where you bought the car I'd say they're being pretty cheeky with that approach. Irrespective of what the small print might say.

Time for an OPC change!

That sounds like a 'known issue' - electric mirror / window controls above the speaker loosen over time - it's not actually the speaker that's buzzing.

Maybe... could be something else of course... but that's a common one apparently.

The navigation in my BGTS won't hold selected PoI's in the map memory. I like to keep fuel stations on the map when I'm in unknown areas. I can select the PoI's but next time I get into the car they've gone. Much investigation by the dealer(frankly there effort has been minimal) and I'm told it's a generic fault in the PCM and there is currently no fix. Anyone else experienced this? I never had this issue in previous Porsche PCM.

Now you mention it, mine doesn't either. Every other Nav I've had did keep the last POI "on" as it were.

Mine has been in for a headlight main beam switch. It ended up being a big job as they had to replace the whole assembly and it took them 3 visits before they ordered the correct part. They also replaced the driver side window switch, seemed ok to me but they said it was a recall item?
They charged me an hours labour to locate and fix some rattles and squeaks. I took it back 3 times till they had found them all!!
Car is 2013 CS which I purchased privately in July and has 2 years extended warranty.

I'm the 2nd owner, but Leicester OPC did my first service. I called in there a few weeks ago on the off chance they'd get a technician to look at it on the spot. Nope, has to be booked in. I explained it was a warranty item and the speaker was buzzing, but the service receptionist, Jaz Hans (great name!), didn't explain that it may not be covered by the warranty at that point.

I can stop the speaker buzzing, on certain bass notes, by putting my hand on it so I guess it is a trim issue or something nearby buzzing. It's not the speaker itself. Technician reckoned about an hour and a half labour so, on the basis I've been behind door trims before, I thought I'd save myself £200 odd and have a look.

I may ping the dealer principal an email, as this is the 2nd time they've messed me about. First time they quoted for tyres then when I arrived they doubled the price! Walked away that time too. Mind you, DP did the service 1/2 price due to their error (when quoting) so can't really complain at his response.

Pedal box bushes were replaced on mine, as they were stopping the brakes from releasing properly. OPC has done a few apparently? Also had to get the PSM recalibrated as it kept showing as faulty, but not entirely sure what was done, if anything?
