hi all
Can I ask a dumb question

Im buying a 718 and have the full hard back brochure but it doesnt actually state the car has a cd player and radio

As everything is an "option" I wondered if it has a cd changer like a 8 disc one and a normal radio

I think a normal radio would be fine for me rather than 284 extra for dad

Im going for the sat nav package which seems expensive but then it all is
Thanks

I think it has single CD player and FM/AM as standard, base sound quality is ok in the 718 too. If you listen to radio I would spec DAB if only for Talksport, Planet Rock, Radio 6 and Jazz FM.

I couldn't go without DAB nowadays definitely worth it for me. Had it in last 3 cars and will be going for it again.

To put it inperspective I bought a Cayman with 3 options, one of them was Dab. Porsche UK are ar** holes for not just making it standard.

If you're venturing far from base, you're in for a disappointing time.

I have problems all over the place, can't get any reception in the Hope Valley, it's patchy from there to Manchester and won't work in a tunnel or covered car park.

DAB = no competition for FM. Utterly dire.

Guess it depends where you are, here in Hampshire reception is good almost wherever I go.

The other issue to be aware of is that FM is meant to be switched off in the UK at some point, better to have DAB already given that perhaps?

Couldn't agree more. The number of cars with FM and the costs to replace? Utterly stupid to contemplate it until most the road have it already fitted, so what 5/7 years down the line perhaps?

I've ordered it in my new 718. The switch won't happen for a while, but I plan to keep this car long-term.

This is a useful summary of where we're at with DAB in the U.K.:

I live in Manchester and travel all over with work. It drops out occasionally over the tops but i'd still rather have it. I don't listen to any channels on FM as I tend to listen to 5 Live/ TalkSport or one of the rock channels. If I didn't have DAB I wouldn't listen to the radio

DAB not being standard is ridiculous but so are many other things. It amazes me that you have to pay extra to be able to turn the passenger air bag off which in a two seater car is pretty rudimentary.

Is it? I havent seen an option on the configurator for turning the airbag off on the 718.

I guess the other side of the argument is that £39k is pretty good value for a 2 seater sports car from a premium manufacturer given the performance on offer.

On the 981 the option to turn off the bag is with the isofix points, I'd imagine it's the same, why else would you need it?

AM...

If you go further east, you won't get a sniff of DAB between Castleton and Hathersage.

I live near mybrainhurts (North Derbyshire) I do use DAB but it can be frustrating, it's fine if I'm going Stockport way, but not if I head Sheffield way. Porsche isn't great not having proper aerials, my previous car with a proper roof aerial had better reception. Either way for these (and other items) to be options when they are standard on 7k runarounds is comical.
