986 S Airbag warning light

Quick 986 question, went to look at a 51 plate S today.
Car was running and then turned off with the key left in the ignition and then turned turned partially to illuminate all the warning lights etc.
The airbag warning light did not illuminate.
The guy called me back, apparently he tried it again and it did light up... turned it off again and tried it again and it did not light up...
Is this normal ie does the airbag light only light up the 1st time that you turn on the electrics and then not subsequently.
