I know this has been done before through the various "ordered" threads but wondering on people's experiences now they've been on the road for a while.

Just ordering a car for Mrs Cheib and a few options I am wondering about if they're worth it

Bose - it's an open top car so wondering if worth ordering...is it much better than standard ?
Mixed reviews from what I have read

Sports Exhaust - Thinking of just going with the Sport Tailpipes. Not sure Mrs Cheib will notice the difference! Bad for resale ?

PCM - I am guessing this is a must have come sale time ?

Bi-Xenon - Read somewhere you need to upgrade to the Bi-Xenon with PDLS as the standard lights are poor ?

Any must haves ?

PASM - essenital I think ? We're going for 20" black wheels given the colour Mrs Cheib wants....
Power Steering Plus - What's the steering like without this at low speeds (Mrs Cheib's main criteria...)

Assume seat heating given its a soft top ?

Cheers

Power steering plus doesn't seem worth it to me. I haven't tried plus, but it's not particularly heavy as standard anyway.

What do you mean by PCM? PCM is standard on the 718, unless you mean Navigation in which case it's a yes from me.

PASM, yes well worth it.

Sports exhaust can be retrofitted, so I wouldn't worry too much about not having it hitting your residuals. Base your decision on whether you like the sound and if you think it's worth the extra.

There's a whole thread on PDLS vs basic lights and the consensus seems to be if you do country road driving, get PDLS. I personally like the 4 LEDs on the PDLS, so will spec it for that.

Heated seats and GT steering wheel (maybe multi function if necessary) are sensible and cheapish options to tick.

Also don't forget to tick the box for the passenger footwell net. It's the one freebie Porsche offer!

Let her choose the options? eek

The exhaust sounds quite pleasant (torrent of abuse anticipated) in Sport mode even without the PSE.

She's chosen the paint colour....after that everything else is immaterial.

"Ruby Star" which is is better known to the Porsche Beards as "Ruby Stone" a la 964 RS i.e. PINK !!!!

You didn't let me down, thanks.

Presumably you sneer at others in a restaurant when they choose the wrong dish on the menu?

Don't forget the Smokers Pack to tidy up the centre console. I'd get digital radio but I wouldn't bother with BOSE plus I'd also get cruise control, dual zone climate and auto wipers.

Definitely get heated seats and PASM. I wouldn't pay £1000 for PCM when Google maps on your smartphone (free) and a Kenu Airframe phone holder (£15) do a better job.

why would I do that ?

I am not sure what a food choice has to do with a Sports car with a 4 pot like a golf over a Sports car with a 6 pot !
one cannot help it if I don't like 4 pots in my sports cars. I have a 4 pot in my S1 run about that's enough for me, to move up a notch in the sound dept one needs more cylinders imo.
Every car is a turbo 4 pot these days it's bloody dull and only done for Co2 not for the good of the car.

The fake over run and Scooby/320D sound is not great, that is a my opinion on it, it's not a car I would be buying, it's an honest viewpoint :-).

Haha

OP, I would say navigation is a must have but everything else is preference.

Bose for me (718 Cayman) initially didn't sound great but got much better once I played with the settings/EQ. It is noticeably good at low speeds but isn't the best a high speeds - as expected I guess.

Sports exhaust is preference. See if you can arrange a test drive with it equipped to see if you like it.

I have PASM and 20" wheels and do notice a difference (test drove a non-pasm car too) but I wouldn't call it a deal breaker.

Hope this helps.

I don't know what made you do that. The OP is buying a 718 and just wants to know which options to choose. You've ridiculed the 718 exhaust with your comparisons.

Food has nothing to do with a car. It's an analogy.

The general trend on here regarding 718 vs 981 is for the anti 718 mob to state the 981 is 'better' and then list out the 10+ previous generation Porsche they've owned/driven to prove that their opinion of 'better' is fact.

So back to the analogy, if you can keep up. When you go to a restaurant do you lean across to the next table and sneer and ridicule their choice, then list the 10 Michelin star restaurants where the head waiter knows you by name to prove you know the Chateaubriand steak tastes better than the tenderloin filet?

I'd get PASM for peace of mind. My 981 + 20" didn't have PASM and I found the ride a bit firm so I was paranoid with the 718 and dropped down to 19" + PASM and the ride feels great to me.

PASM is a definite I think.

Good tips about the Passenger Net and Smoking Pack

Bose - I think I will leave, better palces to spend the money

PSE - Think will leave that too.....and can be retroffited is really desired but I don't think SWMBO will really notice and I am used to Porker's with sub par exhausts anyway as I have a 997 GTS which isn't the best!

Cruise Control, Wipers/Dimming Mirrors are both on the list.

We've been offered a car for the weekend which will take the OPC up on. I have actually had a Boxster S as a loan car for a day and really enjoyed driving it. Really didn't think the exhaust note was that offensive and it certainly didn't sound as bad as the M4 I test drove last year did at idle. I am sure it will be better in the future but it's not going to spoil my wife's enjoyment of the car one bit and if anything she'll probably prefer the power delivery of the Turbo'd 4 pot.

I don't think we've gone especially mad but we're well over £50k and I don't know what the cost of PTS is yet.

ParkAssist (front and rear) - no point denting it

Electrically folding exterior mirrors

Fully electric Sports seats (14-way, electric) - good if you keep swapping drivers and you're different heights

Two-zone automatic climate control

Seat heating - my wife's first option on any car

Full leather - personal taste but the leather dash and door trim elevate the interior

I am not sure what a sports car has to do with sunday lunches with roast beef over sunday lunches with roast chicken !
one cannot help it if I don't like beef in my meals. I have a beefburger in my fast food that's enough for me, to move up a notch in the taste dept one needs more chicken imo.
Every meal is beef these days it's bloody dull and only done for mass produced fast food not for the good of the meal.

Got the park assist. My wife managed to reverse our old X5 into a black cab despote the parking sensors and reversing camera....

Mirrors - got those

Seat heating - must in a convertible ?

Two zone - Is it really two zone ? Lots of two zone systems are fake aren't they ? i.e. the Passenger control doesn't actually do anything.

Full Leather - Definitely. 997 GTS owners spend their lives either bragging about their leather dash or pretending the plastic isn't that bad. Mine hasn't got a plastic dash....

14 way seats - Would be a yes but need to "say no" at some point. Need to try them. My reasoning is that the car isn't going to be doing long road trips. It'll be doing one or two hour drives maximum. Though we're both tall and the better seats have the extending seat squab.

Seat heating - must in a convertible - In any car for my wife.

Two zone - Is it really two zone ? Prefer the auto setting. Never questioned whether it's 2 zone

14 way seats - as I get older I find it harder to get in and out. Electric seats slide back when I open the door so now when I exit I get 7 for style

Two zone is not the issue - standard fair isn't climate, which is a pain

PASM an absolute must with 20" wheels for me (ride is otherwise very poor compared with my 981) - but I'd avoid 20" in any case.

I'd avoid PSE too - standard item is too loud for me - and PSE is noisier even when off.

Folding mirrors look flash - but the mirrors don't stick "out" much and don't stick in much when folded, so buy for the image not the function.

14 ways are a boon if you and SWMBO are different sizes and one of you is small (for ease of exit) otherwise a bit of luxury.

Seat heating is nice in a Cayman if you use it in all weathers and have leather seat facing - more desirable in a Boxster I would think.

Power steering plus - I was surprised to like it, no downsides and my OH would prefer lighter steering when parking.

I agree with sparkyhd...........as am older the electric memory seats assist with getting in/out.
