My OPC says that it will not repair N rated tyres, it will replace only. I am interested in purchasing tyre insurance. This might represent poor value if the insurer insists on repairs, meaning that I cannot use my OPC. What experiences have others had claiming on tyre insurance? Are there any recommendations?

I've got this via OPC. It's a separate insurance limited to £300 and 4 replacements with excess of £20 and alloy wheel repair limited to £150. They will not replace tyre if tread is below 3mm and *will* attempt a repair if they can and if puncture within 75% of the tread iirc. However the OPC may argue with this on N rated tyres and noting certain tyre manufacturers do not recommend repairing.

I suppose it gives peace of mindish (was my man maths) but at full rrp the rear tyres exceed £300. In five years with the previous pork, I only Kerbed the wheel twice and had two punctures - one of which was when the tyre was on its last legs anyway. Opc charged £110 for each kerbing (£70 at a Indy) and allowed me to buy my tyres from internet with the opc fitting them.

So might be worth it.

I think you can only purchase tyre insurance if you bought the car in the last 90 days.

I regret not getting it having had 3 punctures in under 5k miles. I might just be bloody unlucky but the cost of the policy is about the same as one rear tyre from recollection if you have 20s. Of the three punctures only one was repairable.

You are right that the OPC won't repair them as it invalidates the warranty as the repairs can't be guaranteed over 100mph.

Take an extra screw when you get there screw an extra screw close to outside edge.... I haven't done this ... (but a mate told me they paid out the £300 no issues).

Good to know - maybe man maths will work - opc charged me £500 for 3 years cover on tyres and wheels

About £350 for a 20" tyres fitted - the wider rear tyres seem to more prone to picking up screws/nails
