981 Boxster/Cayman GTS
Discussion
Afternoon
The GTS cars for sale have sat around for seemingly months. I say that because I'm looking for a car but just taking time to contemplate the market. I've looked at every car going and spoken to 2 sellers who have had their cars for sale for 3 months+. To me prices seem a little unrealistic - particularly so with the Cayman.
Has anyone got any views experiences?

You can buy a nice spec S for £40k so to pay £60k for a GTS seems daft.
There was a mint S with PCCB, x73, buckets etc tc for £45k not long ago.
Nothing that special about the GTS when you can spec an S to the same spec.
The 997 and 991 GTS had a better engine, but the 981's did not.
A £40k Boxster S is bloody great value imo.

I sold mine in the summer in a day but the market seemed to slow immediately after.
I've been thinking about getting back into one though so have been monitoring but the current crop isn't that interesting or has slightly odd spec. Many seem overpriced and are trying to play off the end of the flat 6 era story. Not many manuals either.

Having said all that there are only 7 CGTSs on the OPC locator, the lowest for some time and there are only 7 others on PH. That's 14 out of a total of 545 cars for sale - not many at all. Prices seem a little lower at high fifties now the mileage on cars is going up and they're a bit older.
Some do seem to hang around for a while but eventually sell, even with a not so great spec.
If your have a low mileage 2015 S with close to GTS spec you'll be paying way more than 40K.
Personally I'd still go GTS, because fully spec'd S's are had to find or too close to GTS money and I want the GTS interior pack.
In the summer I was offered really strong money for mine, we are going into winter and we always see things slowing down a bit. There are still a few CGTS but very few BGTS for sale.

Logically, I agree that an S and GTS can be mechanically very similar, and so a 20k premium is hard to justify.
But I bought a GTS with my heart, because I had a 981 as a loaner when my 996T was in for work, fell in love, and came to suspect the last of the 6 cylinder cars will one day be recognised as a truly special thing, and I’d be keeping mine for a while.
And then I started looking for a grey manual cayman with platinum wheels. And realised they only made 130ish CGTS manuals, and most weren’t grey. Or for sale. But I didn’t want to pay that money for one with a compromised spec. So 6 months later I relented and paid 66k for one, which is nuts, but worth every penny.
So I can see why they get priced high on the offchance. And have watched all the ones with my idea of a good spec go within days, while the slightly oddball/plane jane ones stay on the forecourt. Have also seen the number of OPC cars for sale dropping quite a bit leaving just the oddballs/plane janes.
If you aren’t after a perfect spec keeper though, I’d go for one with high miles, its amazing how much cheaper they go for, even with only 30k miles.

you can't spec anything any more because no 981 is available new and the 981 GTS does have more power than the S contrary to what you say.The 997 and 991 GTS had a better engine, but the 981's did not.
i don't see many base or S versions with the uprated GTS engine, sweeter sounding exhaust (one of the best sounding of any Porsche and for me the best sounding Cayster and will remain so indefinitely given the downsizing and shift to hybrid/full electric), front and rear spoiler styling enhancements, alcantara interior, sports chassis (yeah it was available on the S, but how many actually have it?), and so on.
the S is a great car already but there are many reasons why one might want to go for the GTS instead.
Indeed. Don't forget that the X51 PowerKit engine upgrade fitted to the GTSs was also available as an option on an 'S' model 997 and 991 - they didn't get a bespoke engine either.
Also, a couple of reviews at the time stated that the PASM on the GTS was retuned for that model, so assuming that an S + PASM is equal to a GTS + PASM isn't necessarily correct.

thing is the BHP is not worth talking about, pse is well take it or leave it, you either like it or don't on the GTS, its a bit ott for me, and lot of GTS cars are missing the GTS pack also.i don't see many base or S versions with the uprated GTS engine, sweeter sounding exhaust (one of the best sounding of any Porsche and for me the best sounding Cayster and will remain so indefinitely given the downsizing and shift to hybrid/full electric), front and rear spoiler styling enhancements, alcantara interior, sports chassis (yeah it was available on the S, but how many actually have it?), and so on.

And you say not many S cars have x73 sports sus, I think its even rarer on the GTS to find x73.
Don't get me wrong I would Buy a GTS over an S, but in the main £40k gets you a stonking Boxster S and has to be the best value esp if it has spec.

it was so expensive try and fine an S with power kit on a 911 ! the engine makes the 911 GTS range nothing else.Porsche911R said:

No it's not, it's rarer on the S. For example, 1/23 'S' models on the OPC locator has it as of now, compared to 3/7 GTSs.I regularly see GTSs for sale with it. The GTS press cars had X73 so it promoted the option for buyers. The cynic in me thinks they did that to shift a load of old stock given that all the sports chassis options on Caysters are now PASM-based. Totally understand some may prefer a passive setup, but for me a £60k modern car deserves something better, and the 981 PASM system is fantastic.

I am told off for using the word ave on other threads, but yes for the ave buyer PASM is better and offers more comfort.I regularly see GTSs for sale with it. or trying to get a bit for fun/feel out of the car for weekend use.
Yes, for a bit of fun occasionally, but comfort as a DD, PASM is top of my list of options now I've experienced it for 2 years.
Surely the real "best buy" must be the 981 2.7, albeit most aren't specced as highly as S or GTS. I turned down an S originally in favour of the smaller, "buzzier", engine. Who needs an extra 0.5sec 0-60 these days?
If you do "need" the other end of the performance scale, why settle for a GTS - go the full hog with a GT4.

Agreed. As I've said before, the 'GT4 premium' is only worth paying if you take your cars on track. £20k plus is a lot of spare cash to spend on coke and hookers!
you can use the same line on a GTS over an S though ! £20k buys you much funthe bargains are the S models atm imo.
