Not a happy bunny this morning!

OK so the 107,000 mile 3.2S Boxster 2002 model I recently bought has a noisy timing chain
Worse there is plastic debris in the sump now I've dropped the oil
So the chain guides etc are crumbling I guess

So that will be engine out. The car is average not perfect.
Questions
A/ Is it financially viable to have the engine top end sorted???
B/ Is it best to do clutch and IMS obviously but what else do you guys think should be done while the engine is out?
C/ any ideas on a ball park cost for this lot with a competent indie as to parts and labour.

Of course if anyone wanted to offer me £3k.........

I would probably just change the chains and guides flush and do a couple of back to back oil changes while checking filter then carry on driving. A proper rebuild will be more than £3k.

Sorry to hear that.. I was guessing something similar from your previous topic before you inspected the oil filter. You might get it checked with a reliable specialist firstly, to understands where the debris coming from and how bad the contamination is.

Im usually against second hand replacement engines on 986 unless your original block is not safe to rebuild. Complete rebuild might cost more but you can upgrade loads parts and it would give you ideally 100k or 10 years of trouble free lump.

Do not forget to negotiate/ask 1 year warranty + free running in 1st period service.
