718 pdk standard spec no options..
Discussion
Anyone here bought a 718 with no options? (i need a pdk due to left leg accident/surgery)
I am thinking of going this route to own outright (cash) a car that will last me many years and i am quite happy to forgive the many options to save some money.
Has anyone done the same and regretted not getting some options/what would you have got if you could spec the car again?
thanks

It really depends on what your car is for? Isit a daily or a weekend car?
For a everyday car i would go for the usual driving aids that are not standard
For me most important option if i want to keep close as list price as possible would be
-cruise control ( not a must really)
-auto dimming mirror ( a must if you do alot of night driving)
-heated seats for those cold winter
and then add metalic paint - got a few cars with solid paint peeling laquaer now and most noticable is a 2004 red mini , the whole car is peeling so i would add that...
Do take that you can get 5% off so that is a few options you can get

I went relatively "pov spec", as it seems to be called round here, for my Cayman. Proper climate control rather than basic A/C, heated seats, sports steering wheel are the extras I am really glad I got. I also like the parking sensors.
Could I have lived without any extras at all? You know I actually could have. 18" wheels are great. Standard suspension is as well (although I did go for PASM because the LSD doesn't come without it and PTV. It's not a great diff, and PTV is fun, but ultimately unnecessary.) Standard seats suit me absolutely fine. I went metallic, but the solid colours look really good.
I'd do it.

I have a very basic 997.1 C2 (solid black on black). My options are:
- cruise control
- full leather
- seat heating
- sports package (-20mm; LSD; 19" wheels)
- telephone module
I'm very happy with these options, as they are exactly what I want.
If I'd spec a basic 718 Cayman with PDK today it be the following:

Kinda disagree with Alan’s essentials, I did without auto dimming mirrors on my 718 after having them on my 7 previous Porsche’s, not missing them at all. Cruise control on a weekend fun car seems totally pointless too. Heated seats I agree with though!
i did mention those option is for a daily drive. Weekend car you dont need itSolid black 718 base PDK, minimal options:
Nav- now standard
Parking sensors
64 litre tank
Cruise, as a daily driver essential for the average speed cameras on the A40 into London.
Options I wish I’d added :
Smokers pack
Light design pack
Rear wiper
Trim strips in high gloss finish
I am amazed at some of the basic options that aren’t standard on these cars. Some however you can easily live without IMO- climate control and the auto dimming mirror I thought I’d miss but didn’t. Standard Xenons are fine, 18”s without PASM are still a very sporty ride if you are coming from more standard “executive” cars.
What I really miss- heated exterior mirrors !! I seriously thought these would be standard on all cars nowdays, but TBF mine is usually garaged so is not a major issue.

As a weekend fun car, as others have said, a basic car actually has everything you must have (never thought I'd say that about a Porsche!). As a long term daily ownership proposition I'd go along with Liam - not sure about the sports wheel (used to include paddles for PDK, but paddles now standard with PDK), but parking sensors (especially rear) are a good call.Could I have lived without any extras at all? OP, you may want to check out this video Nick Murray did on youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNm5hvk2C78
Although I am not a huge Porsche fan I really like his channel, which mostly covers his 991.2.
The above link is to a 1 hr video (if you can sit through it) where Nick goes through the Cayman options catalogue and gives his views on what are useful/ useless options. Should help your choice of narrowing down to the absolute essentials.

Sapphire blue metallic is my colour choice and so far is my only option and as i am working to a budget that will probably be all...18" cayman wheels look great but i would like a look around a actual car.A new dealership is opening in January near to me so i have plans to get down there on opening day for a lengthy chat.

Terrific video - odd that he doesn't seem to know that the standard aircon is not climate, and has very odd views on PASM (unless Porsche have cocked it up on the 718) - but a huge fund of useful information and common sense.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNm5hvk2C78

A Porsche factory technician (he was on hand as he came with this early press car) explained during my extended 718S test drive that the 718 PASM will be firmer in normal and sport modes than the 981 as the 718 suspension is firmer than the 981's. This was my experience, finding PASM not so comfortable in normal mode as my 981.I just went over and built a 718 PDK and tried to keep it as basic as possible. This is what I came up with -
Metallic black
Standard wheels but with optional coloured centres
Sport tex blue and crayon leather interior which insists you take sports seats
64 litre tank
Multifunction wheel
2 zone climate
Seat belts in Crayon
Porsche crests in seats
Illuminated carbon sill guards
Bose
Total £50992 so 8k of options that I reckon you would end up paying 46k for in total. Chose the black to hide all of the non-painted trim on the outside and wouldnt want a black interior with that as would look funerial and then the other bits are just to make the interior look a bit nicer and have a half decent audio set up.

They have cocked it up then imo. Although on the 981 PASM HAS stiffer springs and ARBs than standard, in normal mode the damping starts off much softer and only becomes stiffer than standard in very sporty motoring. I assumed they would have done the same on the 718 - accepting that 718s are more stiffly sprong to start with. If what you/he says is true then the ride must be pretty bad on 20" wheels with PASM - I thought it was bad without.I thought they had got it just right with 981 ride/handling compromise on PASM.
