Hi

I am hoping someone will be able to help please. I'm totally befuddled.
The convertible roof mechanism on my 2008 Boxster S 987.1 has totally stopped working i.e. when the latch mechanism is flipped down nothing happens, the windows do not drop, nothing; when you then press the roof open/close switch, again, nothing. There are no error messages on the dash, no warning lights, it's as though all the functionality has been removed and the car doesn’t know it's a convertible!

Any ideas what has happened here?

I've done the obvious things like check the other forum posts, the fuse (is there a relay on the 987 that I should be checking?), disconnect the battery and wait, I have even replaced the open/close switch, checked the roof mechanism for water ingress etc. - all is fine. All the other electronics on the car function perfectly.

This might be coincidental , but I removed and replaced the PCM unit in July 2017 - but that was 6 months prior to this problem - but could I have tripped/damaged a connection during that install - is there anything (wires/connections) behind the centre console that could cause such an issue? I last had the roof down on a sunny December day, everything was fine then. I've owneed the car since Aug 2010, it's been maintained perfectly, the car has been excellent until now. Please help if you can. Many many thanks!

Jacob.

It could be the roof latch microswitch. If that does not detect the latch is undone then the windows won't drop.

Hi I have had 2 cars with same issue in last 6 months, both turned out to be rear control unit failed with age.

The front microswitch operation can be looked at with piwis tester.

Thanks for getting back to me chaps.

I bought a new microswtich and I can install this on the weekend - hopefully this does the trick.

@Chris - regarding the rear control unit, if this turns out to be the issue, can I replace this myself or will this be a trip to the garage? And dare I ask, what was the cost of the repair?

Many thanks.
Jacob.

Rear control unit is around £240.00, but it needs all coding setting up.

Had the same issue today on my 07 Boxster. After trying what I thought was everything and reading many forums and YouTube videos, a last ditch attempt was to stick my finger in the hole that the open/close handle would go into to latch it shut - so the latch mechanism above your rear view mirror - hey presto the whole thing sprung back to life!

It was a complete guess but I’m assuming the micro switch there is sticky, try that!

Hey Jacob
Can I ask if you managed to fix this issue and what it took? I've just discovered the exact same on my 987.

Thanks
Nick
