I have quite a specifc question about 718 driving modes with sport chrono (specifically on the GTS, if that makes a difference).

In my Audi, if you set it to dynamic mode, with the louder exhaust etc., this turns off and goes back to "normal" mode when you turn the engine off. Is the same true with the Porsche?

My understanding from reading online (I haven't taken delivery yet) is that the sports exhaust goes off and it does indeed go back to normal mode, but is there no way of having it start with the pops and crackles in sport? Perhaps turning the ignition, turning the switch, and only then turning the engine on?

Thanks!

From memory on my 981 GTS you could move the key to power the electrics and then turn the PSE on with the button. Someone with a better memory or who still has a PSE equipped car should be able to confirm.

Yes, same with Porsche.

On my 981 GTS, auto stop-start is always reset to on and driving mode is always reset to Normal. PASM chassis setting is, however, always remembered (Normal or Sport chassis). I don't know about the PSE setting as I don't trigger it seperately, only via Sport mode, but I have a feeling it may be remembered?

You can turn on the electrics and change mode/individual settings before you start up though, as described above, should you want to.

That's great if that's true - means you can choose all your settings before firing the car up.

Good to know, thanks!

I have a 718 BGTS and yes, you can set the mode with ignition on before starting up.

I could be wrong but I thought with a PSE car the car starts with PSE on (albiet no indication its on) ie they always sound like the PSE is on when you start them and then enter the correct mode.

Thats my real world experience anyway ie a PSE car always sounds better on startup to a none PSE car ?

I always just start my 981 GTS, listen to the noise, smile and then press the sport button which also turns on the PSE before starting off then once warmed up put it in manual mode (I have a PDK), happy days. I never feel as though I'm missing out orally by just starting the car.

On startup I believe the PSE valves are open but the light shows "off". After a few seconds the valve closes and the exhaust noise reduces. It's part of the startup procedure and nothing to do with the PSE button setting.

My wife's Focus RS does the same thing - the exhaust valve is always open initially on cold start.

I'm fairly sure the neighbours aren't too keen on the RS at 7am hehe

I hadn’t noticed this until recently, but this seems right, whether you turn the ignition on and press the button or not, it doesn’t make any difference, it’s always loud for the first 10 seconds or so and then the valves shut and it calms down.

A cold start against a brick wall behind sounds immense on the 981 gts.
