I wondered if any Cayman 718 owners (possibly 981 too) have any experience with using the ‘Liber T’ Tag on French Auto Routes (I gather it’s the same tech as the Dart Tag so anyone who makes use of this would have the same experience).

I’m planning a trip over to France in a few weeks’ time but his time I thought, rather than messing around with cash/cards and having to leaning across the passenger side of the car, I would get myself a Toll Tag (offer via Eurotunnel) and make use of the dedicated automatic toll lanes.

However, it is said that the Tag should be placed in the shaded/mottled area behind the rear-view mirror which is ‘specifically designed to allow the Tags to work particularly with cars that have metallic/Athermic and heated windscreens’. So I’m not sure if its worth getting a Tag or not as the area behind the rear-view mirror on my 718S is completely covered by an overhead consul (houses the rain sensor for the wipers amongst other things). I have seen examples of other vehicles where instead placement of the Tag just to one side of similar consuls on non-Porsche vehicles is said to work.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this.

The screen on my 987C does not have a hashed zone at all. Do I fit this device above or below the mirror stalk or does it not matter?

Have used one on our 981 Cayman for the last two summers in that location with no issues. Well known Youtuber Schemee uses one, but just waves it at the screen as he approaces the barrier. They're much easier/quicker than stopping to use cash/card. Will be using it again this summer.

I used a Liber T Tag for three years without any issues - very much worth it! If nothing else because the Tag only bays are always on the far left next to the concrete carriageway divider, so as you pull away you get you engine/exhaust noise bouncing back at you smile

I only have a small area around the rear view mirror black out and I just put the tag to one side of this.

Hope this helps

If you check the instruction from the Sanef website hopefully they will help your choice of positioning. https://www.saneftolling.co.uk/faq/ and click on ‘Installation Instructions: Using the Tag / how does it work’.

I only parted with my 987s in January after 6.5 years and I must admit I couldn’t remember what the area behind the mirror looked like! (many Km’s of French motoring in it but never thought to get a Tag until now).

I just hold it out the window on approach. Hate clutter on the windscreen. Really not hard if you keep it in the door pocket. Works every time!
ETA this is particularly useful when you want to use different cars for different trips

This is why I initially got one. I went with a fiend in the end but even so, in low car the pay booths are a pain. It's just so convenient and there is some 'cheep' fun to be had, like driving past the large que for the Pont de Normandie peage or getting beeped at by the 'locals' who assume you're going to the wrong bay smile

It's perhaps a bit of an overstatement but using one has added a little to my trips in France.

I'm taking a 718 to France in a couple weeks and have just received one of these tags. I also have the mirror with sensors covering the motted area.

Can you confirm what worked in the end?

It says to stick it in the haze bit but tbh I have put it in several locations and even left it on the dash of a van it worked fine still.

If you havent got one or anyone would like one remember you pay a activation fee. If you use the below link you get some funds off so you dont have to pay it.

Yes it worked really well (small plastic mount placed just to the left of of the shaded area behind ther mirror mounting). Was particularly nice being able to go through the no stopping toll lanes! Enjoy your trip... i must start planning another soon.

Stuck my clip on the hazed area on Cayenne as it has a heated front screen which I guess interrupts the signal? It was anywhere hidden in the area behind the rear view mirror on 997.

Thanks! It was an old post so I didn't expect a reply so quickly.

I'll pop mine in the same place.
