I’ve had my Cayman a month now, and have yet to decide upon its gender.

My 350z was male, no question. A hairy chested wrestler in a leopardskin leotard who would get you in a headlock and fart in your face.

I think the Cayman is female. For one thing, it’s just so pretty; I see echoes of the Dino in mine, especially since mine has the proper 18” wheels and corresponding tyres.

But there is unquestionable masculinity in it too, from the snarl of the exhaust to the way it threatens to kick my head in when I get a bit carried away.

What say you?

I say it's a load of crap. I refer to all mine as 'it'.

My Cayman does not 'identify' as a male or female.

Another thuddingly witless reply. Night, all.

I named all my older cars, some male names and some female names but then I stopped. I think it was aound the S2000 that I named but in never really stuck with me.

I think the older cars had 'character'. You know that word we use when they break down on you in the pouring rain, on the way to work.

The more modern cars I owned, it is as much to do with the engineering and the sheer brilliance of them. I guess you could say the enjoyment is in the fact that it is a Machine.

My Abarth 500 almost got a name but then it was never going to be a keeper and I never really warmed to it.

Bearing in mind that my Cayman is MY11 (the year of the royal wedding), I wanted to call her Pippa from the newspaper quotes on some of the redtops - you can see the family resemblance but she has the nicer arse!

Never understood cars being female!
the kids name all our cars but boys names, its just a bit of fun but easily scoffed at.

My favourite is our XC90 - its Swedish and a monster, like Spurs' midfield monster Mousa Dembele - so its called The Moose..

Agree with Timbo_Mint re. older cars having more “character”.... My first car: a Fiat UNO was full of it— mostly because it broke down on a weekly basis, and with the aid of a Haynes manual I pretty much disassembled and reassembled the whole car...!! Loved it....

Newer cars (in general) don’t require as much 1:1 time, and thus it’s more difficult to really “bond” with them in the same way as something with lots of quirks and oddities....!!

My GT4 is confusing me somewhat: it’s both pretty and aggressive at the same time.... Has an arse nicer than Beyoncé, but the aggressive stance of “The Rock”....!! Wifey frequently notes that I sometimes refer to “it” as a “him”, and then at other times a “her”, depending on my mood.... So I haven’t even got as far as a name yet...!! Unless I go for something a tad “asexual”, like “George” (no offence to anyone on here called George/Georgina)... wink But that sort of ruins the whole point of it....!!

You're right, WTAF giving cars a name

no different emotion to ones car than any other mechanical object one might own.
im assuming you follow forums for washing machines, dishwashers and power tools as well?

Genderless and nameless here, names are only required for creatures that respond/answer back smile

Edit: Except Henry Hoover, he's a top lad

Having seen on here how much you adore your P-cars (as many of us do)...I don't believe for one moment that you think of them purely as mechanical objects! wink

I must admit I have a Henry hoover! And we do have conversations during the work process.
Its more in a groove of anger, due to the fact that my wife normally does the housework, but refuses to hoover the Porsche. I keep telling her she's missing out, but she's not understanding the enjoyment she could be getting from being inside the car?

Some may say that my 2.7 981 is more of the femail than male. But cos it has the manual gearbox it obviously has male attitude.

So in my book if you have auto its a big girl or at the very least the nice boy in the street.
No offence implied of course.
Although I am sure I have seen cross dressers driving autos as well.
