Hi all, anyone know the best (easiest?) way to clean this ?

I also heard oven cleaner can be used to clean the exhaust tips - but have not tried this yet !

Thanks

White Spirit, cheap and effective £1 from Poundland....Apply with a piece of kitchen roll, just let it soak in for a minute or so.

No need to pay for any fancy overpriced stuff.

Plenty of fancy Fallout Removers available.

That's brake dust, not tar.

This can be removed with carby cleaner, but you have to be really quick as it evaporates within a few seconds and wash the wheels with soapy water as you go because if you leave it on too long it will damage the paint.

Bit of Spirit wipe from your local body shop. Doesn’t damage the paint. Removes sticky label stains off gifts too. Smells of pear drops, lovely!

Autosmart tardis or WD40 will work if it’s tar. If not you want iron x or similar.

Virosol - the detailer who used to do the rounds on the TTOC put me on to it years ago. It’s an industrial degreaser - costs next to nothing and can be diluted down with water.

I used to use it everywhere; under the hood, under the arches, on the wheels etc. this was my old TT (68k miles and about 7-8yr old at the time) after virosoling it under the hood/all over it looking like new again)...

I heard they mainly use it in chip shops and industrial kitchens lol

Ask your OPC what to use. Anything else may invalidate your warranty.

"Ah... sorry sir, you've been using (any of the above) and so we're not going to play ball are we sir? No sir, we are not."

...from personal experience when PGB claimed I'd been using acid cleaner on my wheels which caused hundreds of micro-chips (?) - just a wild stab in the dark on their part of course. I hadn't.

They backed down eventually. I think they'll be chemically testing wheel surfaces soon! rolleyes

Autoglym now do an Iron / fallout remover called Magma. If you need something you can easily pick up at Halfords.

Thanks for all the responses, that's a lot of products. Taking a fairly conservative (and ph neutral!) approach I tried Halfords / Autoglym first, and Magma seemed to do the trick quite nicely, with minimal effort:

Margarine works, and yes I'm being serious. It's one of the reasons I don't eat it any more...
