Bought a Cayman GTS 981 instead of 997 GTS. Odd choice.
Discussion
Having owned a used 981 Cayman S 2 years ago (RJ12 ULU ) with amazing spec (£75K spec) that I had to sell to accommodate 2 grandchildren I felt the need to return to the Porsche fold.
I thought I should go one step up and go for a 911.
Tried a good spec 997 PDK GTS expecting to be blown away by the experience and having to buy the car.
To my and the OPC sales guy’s surprise the car did nothing for me compared to the memory of my Cayman S 2 years ago.
Started a search for a 981 Cayman. Didn’t even consider a 718.
Just need a howling 6 cylinder engine for the experience.
Really loved the look of the blue GT4s out there so honed the search down to a blue GTS.
Nothing was going to match the spec of my previous Cayman S, PCCB, full buckets, Burmester + + +.
Picked my car up from OPC Hatfield. Drove back to Bristol and realised to a point to spec is just gloss, it’s the car that matters.

Just love these cars and really don’t think I’d ever aspire to a 911 now.
Only minor issue is I’ve got used to Apple CarPlay on the traded in Toyota GT86 with a Pioneer AVIC head unit. Anyone changed the PCM 3.1 for an aftermarket head unit?

I moved from a PDK 997 GTS to a PDK 981 Cayman GTS w/X73 & PTV in 2014.

Loved the 981 CGTS for 3years. Quite simply all the car I needed during that time. Perfect companion - total street weapon. So usable. Great performance and economy, great fun too, as one car to do it all.

I ran a 997 for three years, and then swapped it for my Cayman R - loved the 911, but the CR is a far better driver's car on pretty much every level.
Speaks volumes that I'm still running my Cayman R over seven years later, and have no real desire to swap it for anything else.
So no, not really an odd choice at all :-)
BTW - A friend of mine had a 981 GTS in that colour and it really did look superb. Here's a photo of it sandwiched between two Guards Red Cayman Rs; lunchtime on a very wet track day a few years back. Shame about that Golf spoiling the photo :-(

So you didn’t get talked out of the switch then?https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I do wonder if some of the comments on one vs the other are made on limited driving experience or hearsay

I posted this in a different thread, you may have seen it. You can get CarPlay retrofitted at a lot of places so no need to replace the entire head unit. Here’s a vid of one install https://youtu.be/RF_kbvtX2XQI thought I should go one step up and go for a 911.
