Lambda Sensor - Replace with Porsche OE Part or other?
Discussion
I need a couple of lambda sensors on my Boxster s; on bank 2 apparently. I've been advised to replace the sensors with genuine Porsche items, as you are aware, these will be very costly as opposed to non-genuine sensors. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Generally if one bank's sensors need to be replaced unless the other bank's sensors are relatively new I like to replace all 4 sensors at the same time. This minimizes differences in bank fueling due to sensor age differences, which can affect response times and voltage levels.Edited by L40JRC on Tuesday 5th June 05:57
If the other bank's sensors are genuine Porsche sensors and still quite serviceable I'd be inclined to replace the bank's bad sensors with genuine Porsche sensors.
Clearly I just don't like to mix sensors: old and new or genuine and OEM.
For my Boxster I always replaced the O2 sensors with genuine Porsche sensors. For my Turbo at 132K miles I had all 4 sensors replaced at an indy shop and the tech -- an ex-dealer tech who had worked on my car when I had it at the dealer -- told me he was going to order Bosch sensors. He assured me they'd be as good as the Porsche sensors. Based on his assurances I agreed. In about 30K miles the Bosch sensors appeared to work just fine. Then I sold the car so I don't know what kind of longevity the Bosch sensors would have delivered.
I'm curious as to why you feel both sensors on a bank need to be replaced.
Bosch makes the lambda sensors, then Porsche puts their name on them, puts them in a box and adds their fee on. Depending on the code, I'd replace just the one and see if that fixes the problem.
Marc/Rockster is famous for only doing to the OPC/dealer and buying Porsche branded parts. It has served him well. I, on the other hand, sought out equivalent parts made in the same factory but without the markup. I even went to what in the US we call a muffler shop and they installed the O2/lambda sensor I brought them having bought it online. Done in about 15 minutes for hundreds less than an OPC/dealer. A year later, just on a whim, I replaced the other side sensor likewise nearest the engine. Not that I ever got any indication it was needed. Again a muffler shop (I didn't have a lift or the special tool).
