Just picked up my 987.2 cayman s....
Discussion
So I finally managed to buy my mates cayman s that I posted about a few pages back. Never had a Porsche before, but all I can say is I’m loving it so far! The engine just screams when you put your foot down and it’s frightening how easy it is to top 100mph??. Just to recap, my example is a 2011 gen 2 with pdk and launch control. Off the top of my head it has xenons, cruise control, sports wheel with flappy paddles, rear sensors, sat nav, heated seats, boxyer spyder wheels and I’m sure there’s more. I’m not to up to date regarding the must have options but I’m guessing mine is pretty well specced bar a sports exhaust which I would have loved although it sounds great standard. I must admit there seems to be some excessive travel in the brake pedal but having a quick read online it appears this is a known issue. Any other options on these that are very desirable/must haves so I can see if mine has them? Cheers guys!

Looks great...your first Porsche what a great example to have, the 987 is a lovely shape.
Can I suggest if its not had the geometry set-up recently defiantly have this checked just for the sake of the tyre wear.
I would not. I would look a the tyre wear now then see if it needs a geo done depending on the findings. Can I suggest if its not had the geometry set-up recently defiantly have this checked just for the sake of the tyre wear.
Car looks great btw ;-)

Is it a 'Black Edition' version? Thanks, I’m glad the car has a decent spec as I’m hoping in a couple years or whenever I won’t get too hurt on residuals. On another point I’ve booked the car in for a major service at OPC next week and they’ve offered me a 111 point check for £100 which is supposedly half price and if the car passes ok they will provide a Porsche warranty for £700 odd for one year and £1200 odd for two years. Is it worth doing and if I take the two years and sell the car in a year will the warranty be transferable to the new owner? Cheers

Warranty is transferable to a private buyer, yes.
As for whether it's worth it? It depends on your thoughts on the risk of major issues arising.
Car drives like new but I suppose I could do without a very large unexpected bill. For the sake of £1200 odd quid for two years I suppose I’d sleep better. Are Porsche easy to claim from if work does need doing? As for whether it's worth it? It depends on your thoughts on the risk of major issues arising.
The gearchange cables failed on mine (it’s a known fault).
Cost to fix (if billed at retail price for labour and parts) would be roughly the same as one years warranty ...
As for the geometry, Mr D always bangs on about how most drive around in their cars with tired suspension and shonky, less than optimal geometry settings ...
It’s your car, so feel free to do as you please with it, but having the geometry checked and if need be adjusted, would be of the first things I’d do.
Great first Porsche by the way, enjoy it !!

I have come to realise no one wants to change their geo, so if the tyres wear is ok and the OP is not moaning about understeer etc, why spend £300 ?Cost to fix (if billed at retail price for labour and parts) would be roughly the same as one years warranty ...

And how about how it actually drives ?
So rather than waiting to see if the the wear is good, how about pre-empting poor tyre wear and ensure all is correctly aligned and the car drives as it’s makers intended.
My car was purchased off a well known (and regarded) Indy, and one would have hoped the geo had been checked, and in “normal” driving it’s geo felt fine, but when you started to push the boundaries, it became very clear its geo settings were sub optimal.
For the sum of £100 (I think that’s the figure you preached/rammed down our throats for many years) the OP can make sure his car drives as well as can be expected and maximise tyre life.
Why wait !!!!

The car seems to drive as well as one would expect. Everything seems tight and responsive. It’s going in for a full service on Tuesday so hopefully if there are any niggles they will be found. Only issue I’ve found is the long travel on the brake pedal but I’m hoping when they change the brake fluid they will bleed the system and this may alleviate the issue somewhat. Apart from that I’m enjoying the engine, she likes to scream a bit when you put your foot down! The noise behind you sounds great in the cabin, I can only imagine how loud the Porsche sports exhaust would be!
I've found the PSE on my 987.2 S is maybe 10-20% louder (and definitely a bit throatier) from the inside the car when booting it, but it almost sounds like it's twice as loud from outside! So windows down for maximum effect. Although with the valves closed it's still louder than non-PSE, so I'd definitely be disappointed not to have it, certainly a worthwhile add.

Can these be retrofitted? I’d love this!Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
