If you have a car with ceramic disc and they crack can you replace the discs and pads with steel ones or is it a total disc and caliper replacement job??

you can fit steels although they would not be oem so you would not be able to warranty the car.

You’d need to abuse PCCB pretty severely to crack the discs I would have thought (says he with both fingers crossed - I have them on our Boxster GTS). cry

The car is a 987 boxster, so warranties aren’t a issue and a set ceramic disc is a about half the value of the car!,

On a 987 they will be an earlier generation, but if they are in good condition, and mainly for road use, I wouldn't worry, they should last for 100k mls+

The car has done nearly a 100k And I’m looking to buy it, so I’m trying to factor in costs that may come up

If I understand correctly there are wear indicators on the rotors, I think they are about 6mm diameter. If they are clearly visible then the discs are nearing needing replacement. Check the edge of the rotors for chipping, possibly caused by inadvertently dropping a wheel on them. Spend £10 with Porsche for extended stud guides to prevent this if you buy the car.

£10? Are you sure that price is correct? When I was looking at them they were a lot more than that.

Speak to Kev Waterhouse at DW performance. He's ex OPc and set up on his own. He offers a solution to retain the caliper I believe when moving to steels.

I’m away on leave currently but will check on my return. I was surprised at the time how inexpensive they were. Even if they were 10x that price still a fraction of the cost of replacing a chipped PCCB. I keep them with the car in case I get a puncture and have to get a non OPC to fix it!

Of course. I don't have ceramics but was on the look out for some reasonably prices to aid in wheel removal smile

If you do check and find a link or anything please do let me know. PM if its easier smile

Cheers
