The instrument cluster on my 1997 Boxster 986 Tiptronic has decided to give up the ghost (needles darting about on the gauge and digital readout going on & off) so looking to replace it. The existing part number is 98664110800 however i'm told that instrument clusters with a different part number may also fit.

Any advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated

Hi Ray
No, you must find an identical part number replacement.

Points to note:

The mileage is stored in the clocks and can not be adjusted by Porsche.

I have recently been through this process. If it is a new clock set the Porsche PWSIS system can do it but it is not possible to adjust a second hand set.

Either source a replacement set with similar mileage or do what I did and get a mobile mileage adjustment guy out to do it.

Secondly, the onboard computer.

My car has the onboard computer (MPG, outside temp, miles left etc), the computer was an option from new and rather than any physical changes in the clocks, it was simply if a customer paid extra for it then Porsche would turn it on.

If you car has the onboard computer, ensure the clocks you buy have the option switched on.

Have a look on eBay; Douglas Valley Breakers have quite a few in stock

Cheers Paul

That is the correct sort of number but is missing a a few digits. It is on a sticker on the back of the clocks
