Hi All,

Looking around for a 987S PDK and I've noticed lots of cars don't seem to have a sports button in the photos. I understand that Sport Plus is a feature of the Sports Chrono pack but I have to admit I expected every Cayman to have a sport mode. The difference between standard and Sport was definitely noticeable on my standard 987 PDK.

Cheers!

On a 981 Sport button is standard, Sport+ comes with Sport Chrono.

On a 987 I believe you get Sport and Sport+ with Sport Chrono, but Sport can be retro-fitted (minus the clock on the dash).

Cheers! That's what I'd concluded but wanted some validation!

I'll add Sports Chrono to the list of options I require as retrofitting things to a Porsche seems to be expensive from previous experience (Thankfully it was the dealer who had forgotten to add something to the spec as opposed to my problem!)

HI Alun

to move from your Evora to a PDK is an odd choice, ! :-(

thing is, gen 1 PDK don't work that well and will not offer the gears when you ask some of the time on down shifts, also it's not very involving and you might get board of the car very quick having had an manual Evora. the 981 PDK is so much better, you forgo the steering feel and stuff if you want PDK.

My personal advice is 987.2 cars stay manual, if you want PDK go 981. also for resale, PDK 987 are poor as are manual 981's the markets too small to offer an easy offload.

This is NOT a PDK vs Manual topic (lets not get into that st storm) this is a which car suits which gear box more.

It's actually nothing to do with gearbox choice, the OP wants a PDK with sport mode smile

Evora went over a year ago. I snuck a 111R in between too which I sold for a decent price.

Reality was the Evora is a great car in many respects but the £3k clutch timebomb, 3 years of ownership (a long time for me!), a knackered back making the clutch painful on long journeys and the poor quality interior all came together to shift it on.

The 111R just simply didn't get used. I walk half a mile to work most days or I'm driving to a customer a fair distance away (Preston, Goodwood, Peterborough) so the Elise just became an annoyance rather than having a great B-Road blast. The times when I actually get to drive a car "properly" are few and far between so I'm happy to compromise on the comfort side as opposed to the full on driving experience.

I had the 987 PDK Cayman I won from BOTB for 2 years and loved it. If it hadn't been for Porsche West London's service department it might still be in my ownership... That's a different story though!

I think given the type of driving I usually end up doing the PDK is the right choice, it also unlocks the car for my wife to drive as she's only 5ft1 so clutches can be problematic. I will go and have a play though with your thoughts in mind (and try to avoid the 70k mile Cayman R at Ashgood which keeps calling to me!!!).

In which case, contrary to what 911R thinks, if you ever consider a 981 definitely try a manual too (if you can find one!) They're reasonably rare but the gearbox is a rifle-bolt delight to use smile

If you want to know what they are like to drive (with Sports+, PDK with sports steering wheel - only way to have PDK IMHO) then feel free to pm me. Happy to show you. I'm in SE London.

IIRC it was £800 (fixed price regardless of the OPC you use) for Porsche to fit sport/sport+ to the PDK on my Cayman R. A very reasonable price IMO and it transformed the PDK performance.

BTW don't forget that the paddles were also an option with the S so make sure you add those to your shopping list (paddles were only standard on the R fitted with PDK).

Worth mentioning that the 'Sport' button also comes alongside Porsche Sports Exhaust - certainly in my 987.2S anyway.

Happy shopping! smile

I would also add that Sports+, paddles and sports exhaust are the way to go. If you can get PASM as well it gives you the choice for a better suspension feel on track. Don’t know how you your back would hold up with the sports bucket seats but they are very comfortable for a lot of people rather than the standard comfort seats. Don’t forget that extended leather gives a much more luxurious feel for what is at the end of the day a premium product. Good luck with your search.

Worth pointing out that sport+ is only pdk,
Manual is already sporty so just has a sport button!!
