My alternator (or the voltage regulator) is shot on my 2000 Boxster, so have pretty much taken it all apart except for removing the idler pulley. I cannot get the bolt to shift at all. Even stuck a spanner on it and smacked it with a hammer several times, nothing. I'm leaving it overnight with some WD40 on it to see if it will loosen up, but has anyone got any tips?

I haven't even got to the "tap it to loosen the bush" part (although I have tried that as well). Quite frustrating! I don't really want to be defeated by something I cannot undo.

What is the access like? What size bolt?

Usual answer if it's a big enough item would be use a nice long breaker bar, some of these things need a bit of weight to crack off.

It may well have been fitted with thread lock. If so some heat will melt it and allow removal.

WD40 overnight sorted it in the end. I don't have the right attachments for my impact driver (Amazon to the rescue). Unfortunately for naught as I sheared two screws off in the back of the alternator trying to change the voltage regulator.

Doh.
