hi guys, long time lurker first time poster. might seem like a ridiculous question but need to ask as to how realistic it is to actually buy the upcoming 718 spyder from an opc. Just sold my m4 recently so im pretty much carless at the moment as nothing is really taking my fancy. the 718 spyder seems to tick all the boxes, NA, manual and im presuming in budget. im not looking to make money on the thing, though cant deny the idea of depreciation free motoring is extremely appealing. have never bought any Porsche before, but from my understanding its next to impossible to get your hands on any of the gt models without a long standing relationship with the dealer and perhaps offering your wife as well. im thinking of just sending a letter of intent with offer of deposit to every uk Porsche dealer and seeing what comes of it, is this going to be a case of "if your asking its already to late"? not looking into getting into a debate as to the rights or wrongs of Porsche sales strategy just can a man of the street have any chance of getting one at list?

How about buying a 981 Spyder from an OPC, that might get you in with a slight chance of trading up to the new one if they make a decent number of them.
You might actually find the 981 does the job nicely in any case.

As an owner of a 987&981 Spyders I think you may have a slight chance of getting one ,my local OPC let me down and ended up buying one 450 miles away as they had one unsold. As far as I know no OPC are taking any deposits as the car has not been released and been told until that time deposits are not to be taken ..putting multi deposits will work against you as been told that if you are found out Porsche will not supply you with one ,no idea if this is fact just what I have been told .If I get an allocation off the new one I will sell the 981 as they are very similar in style and been told this time around will have a PDK option ..the 987 is a keeper . So a nice 4.500ml 2016 Red 981 may be available at some point .
and it is SPYDER smilesmile

Don’t forget the new spyder may have a GPF which could ruin the sound of the car. We shall see.

I'm another one who'll advise you to buy a 981. There are usually a few for sale at about what they cost new, with not many miles or much use. Pick your spec and colour. you'll have an amazing car, probably not much different to the next one and maybe with a better sound. And you can have it by next weekend. And don't have to sell your wife or touch a salesman in an over familiar fashion.
