Hi guy
I'm new to the forum and new to Porsche Boxster ownership

I have a question about the feel of the brake pedal.
I own a 1999 2.5ltr Boxster, it has abs.

When I use the brakes the pedal is very solid, there is very little travel (if any) before the brakes start applying, it does not take much to stop the car , and no effort is needed, it just when my foot touches the pedal the brakes are instant, I did not notice this when I test drove it, my question is this normal? How should they feel ???
My every day car is a cora, a bit more info for you.

After using the car, if I go back too it, before I start the car, if I press the pedal there is a inch to two inches of travel , I can do this 2 times then the pedal get rock hard again
When I got the car it had 11 months mot.
Do I have a problem or is it me as I'm not used to the car yet???

Sorry if this is a bad post, and thanks in advance for your replys

Hi all

Well just answered my own question,

All is as it should be, it's just me haveing to get used to the car,

And me reading too much about the problems it can and might have,

It's making me worried about it all the time.

xenon 2000 I know what you are saying as I have a 97 2.5 boxster . its a got a rock solid service history going back years and years and the previous owner treated it like a much loved child in the 12 or more years he had it but I read the online sites and every creak and sound make me worry but we have to remember these cars are now 20 plus years old. I have owned mine now for 9 months and have got over the will it go bang big time syndrome a bit and just love being out and about in it. I know they are looked down on a bit but for the price I paid for it to me its a winner all round and puts a big grin on my face when I get in it and I,m nearly 70 so its worth every penny if it goes bang tomorrow.

I think that the confidence that your Boxster brakes give you will spoil you for any other car.

I have just bought a new Giulietta with Brembo brakes, but they are simply awful in comparison to my 2007 Boxster.

There is nothing worse, when something unexpected happens, than a couple of inches of pedal travel. Inevitably, you travel a few metres further than expected, press even harder and the ABS chips in. In the Boxster you just stop and smile.

Hi
Thanks for the reply, I agree the brakes are very good, but I might have a problem with the rear ones, as it look like the front ones are going all the braking, why do I say this,
Well front discs are nice and shiny, but the back ones are very very light brown with shiny patches, I have jacked the car up to see if the brakes work, but I jam a bit of wood between drives seat and brake pedal, and try to rotate the week when off the ground, , I find I can't move the wheels, so I guess there working, just but may be a bit week, as I don't think there coming on under normal braking,
Would a brake fluid change help?

I only had the car a month, I broke all the rules when buying it, I brought the first one I went to see, yes it was cheap under 3.5k, it's had 11 owners, done 84000 miles, last service in book was stamped at 70k, bit I got paperwork for new battery and alternator and for a tensorner, , but oil looked like new, had 11month mot, it still has its leather wallet, with all the books, and two keys it's drives and sounds really nice so it looks like its been looked after, yes it's an old car and it rattles and creaks a bit just like an old car does, but put your foot down and away you go.
Yes I know it needs some work.
Someone put full led lights on the back of the car aftermarket ones, looked horrible, so centre brake light did not work, but now I put it back to standard lights and it looks much better and the centre brake light now works again as I replace that too with an original one, was not dear to sort out,
Sadly I spent all my savings on the car, still a few jobs on it to do that will not cost me much,
It's just the rear brakes that I'm worried about, as I don't have much money to send iit to a garage for them to sort it, and I don't know a good garage for it in my area,
So I can do some jobs myself as I have worked on loads of cars over my years I'm 52, so not young or old, but I let my heart rule my head when I looked at it and brought it, now I'm just stressed out about it now,
I got it locked away in a garage, it's only meant to be a weekend toy anyway.
At the moment I feel I got it horrible wrong and
Wasted all my savings .

Picture of the car, it's a manual, on privet plates, it's got climet control, no cruse control or on board Mpg computer, just a basic car

Cant say much about the 2.5, but mine is quite solid until powered on when the pedal loosens up. My abs isn't working properly but the brakes still work fine.

The front brakes are always going to do the majority of the work, check for a lip on the disks. Rust will always form on the surface but should disappear after some use.

Brake Fluid is usually a 2 year change, check the bottle in the front for level and if you are worried, get it down to an indy for a checkup and a brake fluid change, you don't want to be driving around worried about something like that.

Looks lovely, should there be plastic stakes in the intake?

Hi

When I get a bit of time, I'll bleed the brakes myself, it's not a hard job, but it's a job that takes time, as I work shift, im tired all the time, so have to plan jobs like this, hopefully if it's not raining this coming Friday, I'll do it then.
As I don't have the money at the moment to send it to anyone to look at, so it's me do the job or it just don't get done,
Yes I know it's my fault, and I'm not blaming anyone, it just seams like everything I do is going wrong, and it's making me very sad and unhappy.

As for what you call plastic sticks, it's a plastic grill and yes it meant to be there, there is one each side
