New Windscreen
Discussion
Hi folks,
After a lovely afternoon in Cambridge, I got hit by a stone thrown up on the M11 from the opposite carriageway, so a new screen will be needed for my GTS.
My insurer wants me to go through Autoglass, but I’d much rather have the work done by my OPC.
Has anyone got any experience of this, do I need an approved windscreen??

Check the conditions of your windscreen cover. You may be able to take it anywhere you choose but to take advantage of the low excess and no loss of no claims deal you might have to go where they tell you. I’ve had a couple of screens replaced on mine and as long as they are original Saint Gobain screens and fitted correctly that’s all I have ever cared about. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a patterned glass for any Cayman
Do not let Autoglass anywhere near your car.
Your Porsche warranty will be invalidated if they fit a screen. This will clearly adversely affect the cars value.
You have the right to insist your OPC supply and fit the new screen but you may lose the right to a courtesy car and they may charge you more.
When insuring Porsches in the event of a claim always insist you have the right to take the car for any repairs or glass repairs to an official OPC to maintain the warranty. If the insurer refuses then find a better insurer there are plenty who will accept these terms.

Right and you personally know people that have had warranty claims refused on this basis when the screen fitted is Saint Gobain as per OEM? What claims were refused and how did they link the claim issue to the fact that it’s a screen not fitted by an OPC? I will speak to my OPC again on Monday.
My concern is about the ridiculous warranty loops we have to jump through.
I would prefer the work to be done through an OPC to cover my ass with them, but I’m sure Autoglass will provide good service.
Good question from earlier though: how on earth could having a screen fitted professionally by Autoglass, through a huge insurer, invalidate my warranty?
It surely couldn’t....FFS!!??

Currently going through this with my 981 spyder, Am with esure who use autoglass,. After discussing options autoglass have to get permission to fit OEM glass from esure who have agreed to do this. The replacement glass with have a porsche stamp in it like the original i believe whers as a non oem will not.......is being done on thursday....will report back.
You need to have the screen fitted by the people who the OPC normally use to maintain the warranty.
If it is Autoglass they use then fine as long as it is an oem screen and not one of Autoglasses cheap spurious screens.
Try getting a bid on a car with a non oem screen. It will be red flagged at the OPC on inspection and they will down value it or request that an oem screen is fitted. This could be up to £2k.

I had my screen in a Cayman replaced twice by Autoglass with Saint Gobain original glass and it wasn’t even mentioned when trading. Have you had personal experience of that or is it “something you’ve heard”?If it is Autoglass they use then fine as long as it is an oem screen and not one of Autoglasses cheap spurious screens.

How many newish GT Porsches have you traded to the OPC?Maybe those who took your Cayman weren't an OPC. And if it was an OPC maybe they used the Autoglass technician for their own screens.

I have traded numerous cars to numerous OPCs including 997 GTS and 991 GTS. Most recent being a 991 GT3, GT4 and 991 GT3 RS.
For every one of these cars including the GTS clearly a non oem screen is an issue on many levels.
