Hi, can anyone recommend a scissor jack and wheel brace for a 987 Cayman please?

Halfords do a 1.5 tonne scissor jack and extendable wheel brace for about £40.00 - https://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/garage-wor...

Will this jack fit the Cayman?

Cheers ... Chris.

What do you want it for? To put in the car for emergencies or to keep in the garage for weekend tinkering?

Any jack will do the job. But the cayman has flat jacking points, circular from memory, rather than using the ridged sills on the car. So whilst that jack you linked would do the job fine if you were careful and ideally on flat ground, it wouldn't be as suitable as a trolley jack with a big flat jacking pad.

I've got one from Costco. However they are double the price of a scissor jack, so as I stated it depends what you want/need it for.

Stick it in the car or for once in a blue moon use, get the cheaper, slower scissor jack.

Weekend tinkering or often taking wheels off to clean etc, get the more expensive, easier and faster trolley jack.

I'd personally go for this wrench too:

I have two of them as well as torque wrenches which are strongly advisable.

Kind of curious what it’s for as with emergencies the cayman doesn’t have a spare wheel so no use for the roadside.

For home use scissor jacks are rubbish and dicey (I’ve had one collapse and fail) for anything other than changing wheels (pretty much everything else you have to stick parts of your body into the car). Much better with a trolley jack and stands. My car was lowered so needed to buy a low ride jack.

Thanks for these replies. I've just bought a 987 Cayman and am grappling with the what-to-do-if-you-have-a-puncture-while-driving problem. The car has a tyre sealant bottle with a best-before-2014 date and I don't fancy paying Porsche £60 for a new bottle. Nor do I think finding a tyre repair shop might refuse to fix the tyre because of the sealant gel inside it would be welcome.

I'm leaning towards getting an emergency tyre plug repair kit and that requires the removal of the wheel with the punctured tyre, hence the scissor jack enquiry.

Appreciate the mounting point issue being mentioned. Perhaps the scissor jack could have something mounted on its top to fit the mounting point?

Also appreciate the point that a trolley jack would be needed for any other work under the car - plus axle stands.

Cheers ... Chris.

I'd get some breakdown cover that would recover you to a tyre repair garage if needed. I know that's potentially going to be a pain but purely from my own experience, I've driven an average of 15k miles a year in my driving career and had 1 puncture in 15 years... I'm not sure I'd be wanting to plug a tyre myself at the side of the road.
