After almost 5 years of ownership - the longest I've ever had a car - it was time to move on, and yesterday I parted company with my 981 BS. I have to say that this is the best car I had owned to date, and whilst I wasn't actively looking to change it, something had caught my eye... So first thing yesterday morning I looked at the weather forecast, sighed, and started my journey down to Leicester, sad to see my 'S' go, but excited too.

Here it is, one last photo parked up at Leicester OPC, and echoing what Timbo Mint said recently - thanks to Alex and the rest of the team for making it a nice easy process.

The FAO for Timbo is because when I saw you say that you were selling your Spyder I knew that it was too good to pass up, and I was straight on the phone to Leicester. I thought that you might like to know it's gone to what I think is a good home, and a fellow PHer too. I've been deliberating over a Spyder for a little while now, trying to decide if it was going to be significantly better than an 'S' or 'GTS'. Even though I'd never driven one, that colour absolutely sold it for me, which along with the PCCB and heated buckets ticked the major boxes, so the deal was done! I know there has been a little debate around PTS colours and whether they make a car more desirable - IMO absolutely yes! After looking at numerous white and silver Spyders, Riviera Blue just looked amazing! Rubbish photo, but here it is just before I picked it up - fantastic little car!

Sorry, I don't know how to rotate the image - and yes it was taken with an iphone!

The drive back was tempered by the awful weather, but I managed to get the roof down today as the sun is shining, and what a superb machine the 981 Spyder is! Comparing it to the 'S' was interesting - everything was so reassuringly familiar, and yet pleasingly different too. The Spyder sounds a lot more fruity even with the hood up, and the little hike in power/torque is certainly noticeable. I love being back in a manual car again - this is a weekend toy afterall - and along with the little touches like the buckets, smaller wheel, faster rack and fabric door pulls etc, it adds to the sense of occasion. I can say with absolute certainty that I'm not disappointed with the choice after what seemed a little like a bit of shot in the dark opting for the Spyder without even seeing it let alone driving it first - it's early days but I absolutely love it! If anyone else is unsure about whether the Spyder is significantly better than an 'S' (even a heavily specced one like my old one), then IMO the answer is an emphatic yes. The only thing I currently miss is PCM, if just for the USB input.

Thanks again for the heads up Timbo - I'm fairly sure that I'll be hanging on to this for a long time! I also see that Leicester OPC have advertised my old car, so if you are in the market for a very heavily optioned and well looked after 981 S then look no further.

Similar story when I bought mine 2 years ago - though I did get to see/ drive it after putting down a deposit. I think you know when it’s the right car for you - I’ll be keeping mine a while yet, every trip is an event and there’s not much else comparable. Good luck with yours - let’s hope we get another hot summer 😎

eek Such a shame I didn't know you were selling yours.

I'm a private cash buyer looking for a nice, lowish mls, high spec 981 (2.7 or 3.4) Boxster, for use in Europe this year, and yours may well have ticked a lot of my boxes.

Oh well, good luck with the new one - I'll keep looking wink

Big Congrats FM.....
Timbo did a great job speccing that car.

I’ve just been out for a blast in my Spyder, I absolutely love it and am sure I also will be keeping it for a very, very long time.
Currently done 17k in 3 years and a big Euro tour planned for June..

Cannot wait :-)

Enjoy the ride !!

Thanks everyone - yes, it's a cracking machine and I love the colour! Boxster7 - yours looks fantastic in red, Guards presumably? Suits it!

Sorry Geneve, it hadn't even crossed my mind to advertise it privately. It's a great 'S' though, and although a fair bit more expensive than I would have sold it for if I'd have had my head screwed on properly, I'm sure it'll still be a great car for you if wanted to contact Leicester OPC.

No problem.

I am looking for a nice 2.7 or 3.4, and there are a lot to choose from at the OPCs and Specialists, but negligible 'private sales', which is a shame because I would probably pay a few grand more than most people get at trade-in.

C'est la vie, and enjoy your Spyder wink
