So after approximately five years of lusting and lurking on this website, I have taken the plunge and joined the Porsche Club.

My journey has been difficult and I have only ever owned one other car due to my means. But having driven several of Stuttgart's finest through the altruism of friends (718CS to the Pyrenees, 964 C2, 928 S4), I was sold on a Porsche.

So after receiving that cliched promotion at work I finally was in a place to not just talk about it endlessly with Porsche owner colleagues but actually get myself into a car.

The only issue was which car...started looking at early 986's/996's/987.1's was fraught with running cost fears (car would be used for some commuting) and the dreaded IMS/RMS/WMD/OMFGITWILLEXPLODE issues splattered across almost every guide and forum, so I completely bottled it and went with this...

987.2 Cayman S
40k miles
Full OPC SH
19in Carrera Wheels
Porsche factory fitted 5mm Factory Spacers
Porsche factory fitted Short Shift Gearbox option
PASM, Nav, Heated Seats, Embossed headrests, Alcantara

Can not stop driving it and I am absolutely smitten! Look forward to being part of the club!

I'm already considering what next! This car is an epic bit of kit. The noise of that engine is unreal above 6k.

Great choice. I really like the 987s. Also, I found them more playful than the 981s I have driven.

987.2 = best choice, IMHO. Welcome to the club and congratulations.

Just getting used to the power and the balance, but I can tell I haven't scratched the surface of it's potential or performance.

When you say playful...hehe

Choice Car. Great feeling having your first Porsche. 2 years ago I bought my first and I still gaze at it out the window.

Likewise. First full day of having it I was up at 6am for a drive. 9 hours later I returned. Just awesome!

What have you got?

997.1 . Reading stuff on the internet about the travails of this model roasts my brain, added to that the dealings with the so called 'experts' has left me exasperated but hey ho it's only money at the end of the day and your attitude towards it. 99 % of cars, your hand is never out your pocket. I just enjoy driving and admiring mine.

Oh for sure, you can get lost and overwhelmed on advice but don't over think it, be sensible but go for it! The 997 is a great shape, gorgeous looking car.

Very nice OP. I remember seeing this one on autotrader (not that many manuals come up) and looks like a great spec. Seemed sensibly priced too.

What’s the purpose of the 5mm spacers?

I have no idea other than cosmetic, perhaps a little wider stance so a minor stability/handling improvement (I would suggest it's more cosmetic though). Will have a look into it!
