2 yrs ago my 981, with grilles fitted, passed its 111 point check with no issues having first discussed them with OPC Leicester.

On collecting the car back them I was congratulated for fitting them and the service receptionist even commented that Porsche should fit them OEM.

Today, OPC Leicester have phoned me to say my car has failed its 111 point check due to grilles being fitted.

I phoned PGB and spoke to Jack. The centre got it wrong 2 years ago and it should not have passed with non-OEM parts fitted.

Waiting for the DP to call me. Can anyone locate the thread where PGB were alleged to have said it's OK to fit them? The poster left no indication of who at PGB but I'd like to follow it up if the PH member can be located.

Thanks for any help.

...oh, and my tyre compressor is missing... best place for a replacement?

There's only one case of someone getting grilles "officially" passed on the 111-point check that I've seen, and that was a while ago. I've since seen several mentions of questions being passed onto Porsche AG and they've been refused every time. I think Porsche are much more aware of them now.

If you want to pass the 111-point check you'll have to remove them and then re-fit them at your own risk. If you make a claim and Porsche know you've had grilles on they may refuse to pay out.

PGB tell me a warranty with grilles fitted is invalid.

So, I've been driving around for 2 years with no warranty?

At OPC now waiting to see DP...

What a load of nonsense this. I have a friend with a 991.2 GTS that he bought lightly used form an OPC that had the grills fitted. If the above is to be believed then they sold a car that is not covered by warranty, but I know they are still in place and he has had some warrenty work done since purchase.

Lots of OPCs have passed them, or allowed customers to remove and refit them. Porsche warranty rules state the car must be as Porsche intended with no modifications or non-standard/non-Porsche parts.

IMHO you either play by the rules or don't play at all. I have Zunsport grilles on my 981 GTS, and have had from new, and I've not bought the extended warranty as I wouldn't be without them.

I don't see how complaining to the OPC DP about it will do any good. They're Porsche's rules not the OPC's.

DP unavailable. Service manager Dave Foster advises a member of staff was allowing warranties for cars with grilles incorrectly 2 yrs ago which they would have honoured at dealership level as PGB would not entertain any claims with grilles fitted.

Also, absence of air compressor, or cigarette lighter even, would fail 111 point check. A different compressor (I brought one with me) won't do. DP phoning me Monday...

Like I said, it's Porsche's game/ball/rules and you have to play by them if you want the extended warranty...

Same here, just told SM I'll drop out of OPC network and go to indys in future as grilles are more important to me too. Their loss.

No good removing just for the 111 check as when they're back on and you're towed in after engine failure they'll say "invalid warranty". Jack at PGB confirmed this as a pointless exercise just to be able to pay for an invalid warranty!

My complaint was that OPC Leics set a precedent 2yrs ago allowing the warranty with grilles fitted. They've explained this was a rogue member of staff and they'd have honoured it. Thing is, my contract is with the insurer, not them, and if invalid from outset the insurer must refund all premiums.

As an insurance broker of 30+ years I've had this happen. Customer lies about health then years later claims. Instead of saying "on your bike" the insurer must refund all premiums as the contract was void from outset.

Let you know what happens...

Cool - it'll be interesting to hear what the DP says, which I suspect will be backing up the service manager.

They take 30 seconds to remove. Cannot see what the fuss is about. You know it will fail having them fitted so remove them and refit once done. Get on with life............

Removing them leaves rather nasty marks due to the teeth on the clips. Porsche will know grilles have been fitted.

... and refuse the potentially lucrative warratny work because it may have had grills fitted at some point in the past? I doubt they'd look that hard.

I don't get why people would take out the extended warranty, fit grilles that go against the rules, and still expect full warranty cover. Paying £1500 for a two year warranty that could be invalid from day 1 sounds crazy to me!

Could it be seen as fraudulent if you try and get away with it?

Does paint protection film plastered all over the car void the OPC warranty?

That's a non-OEM product.

Perhaps the original corrosion/paint warranty.
...wax polish would be the same no doubt.

After reading this I’m considering removing mine as it presumably voids the warranty on a new car too.

What’s the best tool to use to get to the clips and prize them open to remove?

Can you give any pointers on removing them, such as the tool you used to remove them?
