2005 Boxster 987 IMS Porsche Dealer Change Question

Hello all

I am new to the owning a Porsche owning world so don't knock me too much for the stupid question I am about to ask.

I am in the process of buying a 2005 987 Boxster and the owner has told me that the IMS was changed a year ago at the local Porsche Centre. As theses are known to be on the poor side does anyone know if the Porsche dealer would give it an undated one or the same rubbish one?

I can't see a Porsche dealer using anything but Porsche parts, so yes, it will almost certainly be identical to the original. I'd expect to be shown paperwork to back up his assertion, and that should have a part number on the invoice.

What does the invoice say? Is it the cover or the bearing or shaft itself?

I have not picked up the car yet so I don't know. All I know is that the IMS has been changed so I might just call a Porsche Centre tomorrow and see if they can help me out with some information.

Because they dont sell the parts and it's not a documented repair procedurw. Hence all the IMS 'fixes' are aftermarket.

Wouldn't a Porsche Centre change the whole shaft as Porsche do not sell the bearing separately. Big job.
