Just curious to see whether anyone else is struggling to move a standard cooking Porsche on.

I don't want to get into the whole what's it worth thing, I'm confident mine (987 Cayman S, high spec etc.) is correctly priced, honestly & lengthily described, loads of pics etc. but I'm not even seeing enquiries. It's currently on Pistonheads, Ebay & Gumtree(!) Had it on AT & hardly any response at all. FWIW, I'm also flogging an old Honda Jazz in good nick & ridiculously low mileage for pennies, comparatively & that's hardly faring any better, so is it me, the market in general, me, the car or me?

How far above wbac are your asking prices? Couple of friends also have cars on AT and starting point for buyers seems to be whatever price wbac spits out plus say 5% on condition etc. You’d think this time of year, ahead of summer, would be a good time.
New car discounts seem to be very easy to get (mainstream manufacturers) so that may also put downward pressure and more volume of cars (p/x’d) on to the used market? I’m no expert just guesses.

If it’s not generating interest and selling then it’s not correctly priced simple as that.

Last time I sold on AT I had zero responses during the first two weeks after running the ad. I then cut the price and the 'phone didn't stop ringing. Agree with posters above, if it's priced correctly it will generate interest.

Very happy to take that sentiment on board. The question arises because I've undercut anyone selling at the same mileage, spec, history & year. So without trying to sound defensive, I naturally question the market. Time for a haircut I suppose.

Not convinced WBAC is the best barometer for values on something like a Porsche though, given that their main stuff is more run of the mill cars. WBAC valued my 987 Boxster at £3500 a few months ago, not convinced its worth only 5% more than that (although prepared to be proved wrong!).

How much cheaper are you than dealers offering a similar year/spec, etc car?

Browsing the classifieds I constantly see private sellers asking pretty much exactly the same (or sometimes more) than dealers for the same car (and probably wondering why they get no interest).

Roughly 20%. My car is almost invariably higher spec. Sport chrono, pcm, Dension etc. & better maintained than the majority I see at dealers. I factored this in but suspect a lot of buyers don't look beyond the window sticker.

If it's the one I think then you have it advertised at the Indy price. Private should be about £2k lower.

If it's your bog standard boxster or boxster s (not a spyder or 981 gts.. something rare) then unless it's cheaper than the others then its gonna be hard to shift.

It also depends on what's popular in the market at the moment.

My 981 GTS was put on the market 2 weeks ago and in total i had 7 AT calls, 2 private buyers viewed it. Over 2,500 advert views.

Sorry to say but regular 987's aren't "rare". So you'll have to be competitive in price if you wanna shift. Or hang on for longer.

It's also worth mentioning that most people (bar enthuasts) will not touch an expensive car from a private seller, regardless of price. Dealers always come first because of the warranty.

I always go for a bit cheaper than the nearest equivalent private advertised price (typically approx 1k) and they sell fairly easy. At that you're still saving a decent amount over trade in price and have the cash in hand for your next purchase making buying easier as well smile

As a check price, you could take a trip to your nearest independent Porsche specialist or even nearest OPC and see what they offer. If either offer you a half decent offer I’d be tempted to take it, at least you’d avoid the hassle of time wasters and tyre kickers

Sold my 981 GTS to a dealer in the end, I was just getting ridiculous low balling offers. One guy from Porsche Owners FB page offered me 2K less than OPC, and one the same as the OPC. In the end it went to an Indy who offered more than OPC, more than other Indy's and more than private buyers.

Yep me too. Had mine advertised for 47k. OPC rang me up and said would i accept "high 30s". I laughed over the phone. What an insult. Sold it in the end for 44k to Mike Ashgood.

Perversely, regular buyers on AT and the likes may be put off by regular spending on mods and preventative maintenance. That has much more value on a specialist or owners forum. However, if you are not a regular or active contributor there so users don't see or know your car or routine then a first post flogging a car never goes down well.

If it's got a brown interior that might not help..

OP, is it the white 987.1 on PH? If so, it seems quite a high figure for a 987.1. I sold a design edition 1 to a dealer over three years ago for £19k and it had half the mileage of that one and the full set of giveaways that the DE1 came with, watch included, in a nice leather case. Oh, and a special reg number relevant to the car. It was as good as it gets.

If it's not that one then please apply link so we can actually see the car that you are talking about. We may be able to advise more appropriately.

No it's not the white one & sorry, I don't wish to fall foul of the posting rules, so you'll have to take me at my word.
