It's hardly a thing of beauty under there though is it? Reminds me of the last time I serviced the commercial washing machine at work...

Also the engine gets incredibly dirty under there with dust and road grime

That should nicely increase the engine noise in your cabin to a completely unacceptable level.

Not too sure i can see why anyone would want to

Cons:

Nothing much to see.... Porsche knew it was never going to be seen and decorated it as such.
Huge increase in NVH
Huge increase in cabin temperature
Constantly removing it to clean under it.
Cost?
Scratches easily.

Pros:

................................??

Each to their own i guess. smile

The flat six has no visual appeal whatsoever - a waste of money.

Maybe see if you can fit a Chevy small block in first?
Otherwise it will be a little Chavvy and pointless.

I disagree that the engine has no appeal whatsoever, but I do agree that keeping it acceptably clean would be the most massive ball ache ever.

Try running with no carpet padding for a few days to see if you can stand the noise.

Hmmm, I’m struggling to see anything even vaguely visually appealing here.
Am I missing something ?

Ha, it reminds me that I have thought in the past about how much a shame it is that the Mezger engine is functionally such an amazing engine - truly one of the engine masterpieces - but that it's just such an ugly thing to look at!

It doesn't matter what intake/exhaust goodness you might want to add; the flat six is just not a layout that will ever look nice (to me anyway biggrin ).

I’ve built one or two pretty flat 4s...

so just like a 718 biggrin

But agree, this is no AM Valkyrie motor. Haha

What you could do op is fit the glass cover then cut down a picture of a nice v8 (or above) and stick it to the inside. That way you won't have to worry about cleaning it and you see a nice engine, win winlaugh.

imminent oil and coolant leaks might create some very interesting art-work on the glass cover. I think. rolleyes

Isnt it the exhaust you hear not the engine?

It ain't pretty, like a V in a Ferrari, but it's got a functional appeal, better to look at than a piece of carpet.
