Andreas Preuninger talks to Henry Catchpole about the new Spyder & GT4. Most interesting points for me are that although the suspension and brakes for both are from the GT3 there are different damper settings for the Spyder. A PDK "may" be available next year, 10 seconds faster around the ring with 2 aero settings (on GT4). 1st build slots this year, 2019, are limited but production will last whole of 2020 and possibly 2021 meaning there will be much better availability for those that want it (10% Brexit surcharge in UK will make a big difference in 2020). Must have options, for Preuninger, are folding bucket seats, he says no point to the car with comfort seats, and a radio as your phone and wallet will fly out of the cubby holes anyway :-)

It is a shame you can't get folding buckets in the GT4.

So 30kg is the number in terms of weight increase. Half a passenger.

That’s the best sales pitch I’ve seen for the car.

Shame you can’t hear it!

You can hear the 917 Spyder here, short clip I filmed up the hill at Goodwood last week. Its not too bad but not as good as the 981.

Much better clip. Makes one wonder why Porsche wouldn’t put out a clip like that.

My favourite bit was when AP says the new design wheels are 'evolutionary' not 'revolutionary.'

Great example of unintentional German irony. rolleyes

Catchpole not brave enough to ask about the reasoning behind the gear ratios?

I like the standard gear ratios, too many gears on other cars to flash through in a split second, there is something nice about hearing the engine revs grow, the sound changing and the anticipation of the next gear change. Its kind of a Porsche trait. I accept there are other reasons why its not close ratio, to keep the 0-60 headline figures higher than the 911, but as an overall driving experience I think the longer ratios add rather than take away.

It hasn’t, design and construction is the same.
I posted a pic I took at Goodwood in the other thread.

Catchpole has obviously got a great relationship with Porsche as he always gets access for these vids...I think he’s great. Clearly there’s a bit of “back scratching” going on.... Porsche like him and its great for him. He’d be daft to kill the goose....

true they are walk arounds and he does them better than anyone, but you can see he was biting his tongue and did not push a single thing.

I really do hope Porsche make a swang song NA Cayman RS at some point.

What a disappointment had my name down before this model was officially launched.
Can't imagine why any one would want to order a Porsche that sounds like a fart in a can. It makes the 718 4 cylinder that everyone complained about sound good in comparison.
IMO looks good apart from the front spoiler & a big let down when you start the engine which should be part of this cars charactor as well as the looks shame.
Just imagine if Ferrari launched a model that sounded limp wristed like this.

Which only matters if you are a flipper, or can’t really afford to run a car like this in the first place.

I hope they depreciate like mondeos and all the flipper interest moves into something else, then maybe I’ll actually be able to get hold of the cars I want to drive and enjoy.
I don't think the Spyder will depreciate like Mondeo's, wishful thinking indeed! Cars depreciate if they are common, unreliable or have a poor reputation. If you have a limited production car that's great to drive, desirable, with a good reliability record it will depreciate much less than your average car. You can see how poor perceived reliability (McLaren 12C), poor desirability (911 996), easy availability (AM V8) can harm values. All those three are lovely cars and their reputations mostly unwarranted but depreciation was harsh. A small production run, desirable Porsche with a good reliability record should do relatively well and hold their value.
