Hello everyone.

Well after many years of wishing to be able to get a Porsche, and with a new Porsche centre opening recently in my city I have decided you only live once so what the hell. Only baby steps at this moment in time with my first purchase!

I have managed to secure a built slot for Oct and have chosen the following spec (see below). I am really unsure on my colour and alloy specification so would love some help with ideas. I am not a yellow, blue or red fan by the way for the main colour.

 Jet Black Metallic
 Black Alcantara® and leatherette seats
 ‘718’ logo painted
 Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)
 Sports tailpipes in black
 Power steering Plus
 20-inch Carrera S wheels
 Wheels painted in satin black (complete)
 Bi-Xenon main headlights in black including
Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS)
 Tinted taillights
 Electrically folding exterior mirrors including
courtesy lighting
 Rear wiper
 Cruise control
 ParkAssist (front and rear) including reversing
camera
 Heated multifunction steering wheel
 Sports seats (2-way, electric)
 Seat heating
 Passenger footwell storage net
 ISOFIX child seat mounting points on front
passenger seat

This is my first Porsche after 20 plus years of BMW, so any help advice is much appreciated and would love to meet other members in the North West once the car arrives.

I'd seriously consider dual-zone climate. Will be like going back to the dark (cold/hot) ages if you're coming from BMW and don't option it.

Spec very similar to mine otherwise. So, course I would agree.

I'd also consider the auto wipers/dimming mirrors.

Sports chrono and PASM are the ones missing for me.

Didn't fancy LED lights then?
Black wheels on a black car can look a bit lost...

Whatever, hope you enjoy it. thumbup

I think you can drop power steering plus and the rear wiper personally. I have never needed or missed either of them (plus it looks better without the rear wiper).

Drop the rear wiper (you seriously won't miss it), and the black wheels. Get the auto wipers - I miss them on cars that don't have them. You have to have Sport Chrono - coupled with PDK you'll get the benefit once you have it and great at resale. If this is more than a weekend toy, then seriously consider the LED lighting too.

Rear wiper is the one thing I actually miss as I use mine as a daily driver- there are a few times a year where reversing out of a parking space in heavy rain gets tricky even with rain-x applied. Is form over function though, if it's a weekend car it probably looks nicer without.

Add the light design pack - standard internal lighting is poor imo.

Black wheels with a black car ? Personal choice but not my taste as a bit overkill ?

Auto wipers / dimming mirrors ? I also had this in a previous car but don't miss it.

Never mind the toys and shiny bits - what engine? And how do you intend to use the car?

thank everyone so to answer a few questions.

Its a daily driver put 13-14k per annum. I have an Audi Etron on order as a family weekend car.

Its a standard 2.0 base model engine.

It thought the rear wiper might be handy in bad weather as a daily driver??

I am starting to think black on black might not be the best combo. Maybe Agate Grey with 911 turbo wheels??

Well if you're in the north west and your city has new Porsche Centre then you must be in Preston... my office is on Cross Street, off Winckley Square so come and say hi when you get the car!

Smokers pack is a good idea, tidies up the centre console. Personally, I would ditch the rear wiper (aerodynamics mean the window will dry itself as soon as you start moving) and power steering plus. I would also personally avoid black / black wheels on a 718 but that's purely down to you. Auto wipers / dimming mirrors and climate control may be missed by you after 20 years of BMW.

Porsche Club and TIPEC are both active locally with the usual array of enthusiasts and some decent drives out, track day opportunities etc.

Enjoy the car.

Yes Rob your correct. I know Cross Street well, just been looking at some investment properties in that area. Thanks for the info.

Good luck with the new 718.

Everyone has a different opinion about which options are a must have, maybe have, don’t bother. Just pick what you like and you won’t go wrong.

Roll on October.

Have you had a black car you cared about before?

If not, don't!

Looks great when newly washed but whether the weather be dry, or whether the weather be wet, you'll be cursing the dust and the rain marks, whatever the weather we get!

White. black, grey, that's what we mostly see on the roads. Silver has died a death... so go silver?

Delete PDK, delete rear wiper, delete sports exhaust (just makes the din worse), add PASM.

I'd have a careful look at the "S" before loading a base car with expensive options.

However, the base 718 and PDK do make a very happy combination for real world car use IMO.

Ah sorry, didn’t mean to offend. There are far too many 981 owners with an inferiority complex on here for some reason... jester
