Is the 718-6 really coming?
Discussion
This has been asked quite a few times.
All the reviews of the 718 GT4 and Spyder saw that this engine will be used somewhere else also soon. AP also basically confirmed it.
The issue is where will be it positioned in terms of performance. As 4-Pot 718 PDK GTS is faster than Manual 718 GT4/Spyder.
So this will be purely for people that just want a six pot and say they are willing to pay for it. We’ll see if they are talk-shops only, when offered the option at a price.
Keep ‘em peeled.

Agree with TDT, the hints are so strong they basically confirm that engine in some state of tune in something. Given the Cayman mules spotted without the GT wings etc then I definitely expect it. Also AP in the Henry Catchpole vid said it wouldn’t be a Touring so hopefully not limited - that’s definitely just speculation on my part though.

I wouldn’t say your OPC is useless - they are frequently told nothing and humble minions such as ourselves frequently get information through spies in magazines before they do. The first pictures my OPC at the time ever saw of the forthcoming 981 were snoop shots I showed them! My OPC dealer principal told me that 718 Six is “ an official rumour” and they was from Porsche factory people at the 992 dealer launch events.
It would certainly make financial sense to spread the cost of developing and certifying the 4.0 litre N/A six to use it in more than in comparatively limited edition Spyder and GT4?
I’ve been told definitively that a 4.0 6 cylinder Boxster will be available before the end of the year called the GTS, replacing the current turbo 4 cylinder car. No mention of limited numbers as a standard production model. He didn’t have details of performance, price etc but said expect it to be around 10% less than the Spyder in all areas and very much a road car.

Youve hit the nail on the head . New cars just aren't like the good old days . Emissions noise and economy has killed all of those things.Ive heard the 718 spyder and you can tell the 12kg emission filter is strangling it.im pretty sure its not what most were hoping for?

If they call it a "GTS", that'll be a first for Porsche, when the "new" GTS is slower than the old ;-)dreamcar said:

I disagree - the vibrations from that flat four give you plenty of tingly moments even if they are unpleasant!!Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

Still laugh at the story that they have an LOI for a 911 V8 placed in 2006. Might be a long wait
