Im new to piston heads although I've been reading the forums for a few years.

I've a 2015 Cayman from New, 6 cylinder and have only done 20,000 miles. I had the first service after 2 years and have now received a reminder from Porsche saying I need to have the major 40,000 or 4 years service. Just had MOT and little service.

What's the advice here? have it or wait until I've clocked up a few more miles.

Cheers.

You answered your own question. Just because you're not driving it, doesn't mean fluids aren't sitting around and ageing and so on. It'd be foolhardy to skimp on a service on a 4 year old Porsche just to save a few quid in the short term (not necessarily the longer term...). It would perhaps be wise to consult the service schedule before you do any 'little services' in future.

Get it done by a specialist to save some money.

Great, any recommendations of a specialist known and trusted would be great.

Kwik fit are pretty decent for this type of stuff.

Any local garage with a known good reputation can do it. There's nothing specialised in servicing a Porsche. No need to pay 'specialist' rates.

Good idea ....Not even if they use the right oil and don't screw with it too much I think it would be kiss of death come resale having that as a stamp in the book ...

Are you sure?

Some Porsche can be very specialised to service.

My 981 (modest mileage) is now 7 years old. In a year's time I plan to let it have a 6 year service.

Has it exploded? Strangely not.

Do I think it will explode before its next service? No.

The so-called specialists around may way are no cheaper than the real deal.

Do you realise it needed the belts changing at 6 years, and you won't do them till 8

So yes your engine might explode if that snaps.

Good luck, and the cars now unsellable at market value.

Unless you want to potentially devalue your car overnight, please get it serviced 'properly' according to the Porsche schedule at an OPC(expensive) or a recommended Porsche Independent Specialist. As already said, if you post your location, I'm sure some sensible people on here can post up some good Porsche specialists for you, I don't think it will include Kwik Fit !!
Good luck.

I'm in Essex.

I'd rather have it done well, she's not got a scratch on her yet!

what that your car was due the belt change at 6 years and you said no thanks.

I care not, you have devalued you car 20%, it's your choice to not service it.
