2007- 2008 ims bearing.
Discussion
I realise the ims has gone though several modifications ie twin row bearing up to 2002, single track bearing up to 2005 and large single track bearing up to 2008/2009 until the introduction of the MA1 engine 2009 onwards.
Has anyone had problems with the later large diameter single track bearing circa 2008models 987 engine?

I've read they estimate chance of failure on the later bigger IMS bearing is 1%.
Earlier one is around 8% but not sure how correct these figures are.
Later bearing is much harder to replace so most just leave it....remember that say a BMW engine can also catch you out so no engine is 100% failutre proof so have to weight up all the odds.
Smaller bearing is easier to replace so most do it during clutch change.
Anyway, I have a 2006 and don't worry about it and just drive the thing (hard as well at times)
