Just watched the latest episode where a Cayman T manual was pitted against the new Z4 M40i, th3 300 bhp F Type & the new TT RS.

I was very surprised by the result (I won’t spoil it for those that haven’t watched it).

Watched it too, won’t spoil it either. I keep watching (again and again) the episode where they put a yellow 992 C4S against a Macca in a ‘Supercar Shootout’. It’s official, I have a supercar smile

My guess is the bmw for the win.

With the Audi being the fastest, so it might win due to that.

Just watched it, odd result as neither driver wanted the winner, so imo it did not win.

Might try the car they both wanted for a daily.

And the ride on road being a bit hard when they chose the T with 20mm lower suspension. Should have chosen a base with PDK, which would have also match the gearboxes in the others.

Sports car eliminated from sports car group test for being too much of a sports car?

They seemed to want a GT car, found the test a bit odd. I always had the TT RS down as being a bit one dimensional. Fast undoubtably, but not exactly the last word in handling for a sports car.

That's about it re all TT's...shame really, they could be so much better. Good for what they are though, as you described. The Porsche is the only sports car there.

In fairness, the testers have reasonable racing credentials imo..

Agreed, but the car never made it as far as the track test as it was a bit hard and noisy on the road. As I said previously I think a manual T was the wrong car to compare with the others.

and slow remember :-) 3rd fastest !! and by quite a way down.

So it was crap on the drag strip and then not very nice to drive on the road vs the other 2 cars.

I really like the z4 M40i and ran a TTRS for 2 years :-) enjoyed it, would not touch a 2.0 718 myself.

track tests are pointless imo Porsche make a GT3 for that.

Is Fifth Gear still going ? It was canned twice as I recall, last time in 2016 and now is on Quest whatever obscure cable channel that is.

Drag race manual vs dual clutch... Hmm that's fair.

All this demonstrates is racing drivers are not car reviewers, is also I believe why Clarkson invented the non talking 'stig'...

Please just let it die for the love of god...

not really an obscure channel it's on freeview and freesat which every one has free, which is nice. Nothing to do with cable channels !

there is TV beyond BBC1, Netflix and sky etc... it's not 1980 :-)

I actually Like Plato etc he at least can drive so I do respect a view from some one like that.

OVER entertainment car programs where it's painfull to watch like topgear !!!

Let's face it, if they had put a Supra in the mix instead of the Jag the Cayman would have been eliminated in the first test. Just emphasises what a meaningless "test" it was - and why it produced a meaningless result.

The RS product was always going to be faster than an m lite and entry level 4 pot Jaguar. Agree that the test was a bit of an odd one in the car choices. I think the more relevant test would have been the Supra vs Cayman vs M2 comp vs F Type with the bigger engine vs TT RS.

I thought the Z4 was setup to be a softer car though? Soft top with more comfortable suspension, etc. (I've not driven either to qualify that mind)

It was a £50k car test so the engines and power were irrelevent.

a little unfair to the Porsche as the 718 is essentially a facelift 981 with a lesser engine due to emissions....all the other cars are next generation....718 is an old car. It's all gone a little out of sync for the baby Porsche....I guess due to an all new electric model not being ready for launch as yet?
