I’ve got a 718GT4 coming through in 2-3 weeks, I’m excited although I did originally want a Spyder.

Appreciate it’s an outside chance but does anybody have a Spyder coming through who’d prefer a GT4?

I'll be honest, I am in the same boat. When i saw the launch, I wish I had went for the Spyder - I just assumed it would be a luke warm version again so wasn't really on my radar.

The only thing I'd want to be sure of is it's usability, as I understand the roof is still a pared back version, i.e. not like a Boxster.

You couldn't convert your order to a Spyder when it came to locking spec?? Both cars were fully announced at the same time.

There are roughly 1/3 Spyders coming compared to GT4's.

Really? Initial allocations have been pretty even and now neither are listed as limited availability.

I was told it’s a 3 year production schedule for the GT4 and Spyder, so if you want one you will get one, you might need to wait but you will get one. I’m assuming this is VW influence.

That sounds about right. Sept 2019 through to summer shutdown in July 2022?

The next-gen Cayster would probably/need/have to be a hybrid or full electric and that's due in 2023:

Really ?! Interested if that is correct....not that I have any information, haven’t even enquired about a GT4 or Spyder as didn’t think I’d get one.

A long production run has been mentioned a few times in the press/reviews/videos I think. They've got to recoup the development cost of the engine, so that plus the RS and non-GT Caysters over 2-3 years would make sense.

Yep - its a long production run, as there is no new platform to come.

Don’t see why it’s rubbish, it’s quite conceivable. Both OPC’s who I have a relationship with (and only one has offered me a 718 Spyder) have said they’ve had twice the amount of GT4 allocations so far. It’s also pretty easy to find out that approx 550 981 GT4s were registered in the UK, compared to approx 200 981 Spyders. So it’s a fair assumption that there will be more 718 GT4s on UK roads than Spyders.

tell him to keep trying.

OPC are funny buggers, they can only sell allocations though, and they have not had the 2020 ones yet.
I bet they all get at least 4 more lots.

you just need to say put me on a list even if I am number 47 at your OPC.

if you are not on a list you will never get the call.

OPC are just being daft about lists, but they do have them...and if they get 50 cars by 2021 then if you are 47 you will get one.

for them to keep saying no is daft but I know a lot do.

They've had some, up to April it seems.

and no buyers as they won't take peoples letters on intent !

hence on the other thread the "i was cold called too. well, cold emailed actually..."

funny game but they are losing customers as for >£100k I would rather other cars 2nd hand over the GT4 with a big option list.
If you are not tracking I would take a AMG GTR for £110 as a daily fun car or a Audi R8V10 plus or if you wanted a Porker the GT3 now they are list is a far far better car for only a tiny bit more now and a choice of gear box's.

GT4 only comes into its own if you track it. But AMG GTR vs a GT4 it's no contest for me personally you get a 580BHp monster with a trick TC control and if you pick track pack trick seats for £50k under list

I am still waiting for a Boxster 4.0 with electric roof.

You said there were no 2020 allocations, I was correcting your incorrect statement.

OPCs are trying to maximise money, I'm sure they wanted to fleece JasonSteel out of his CGTS into a GT4 because they had a buyer lined up. It's simple - business is business and they need to make money. You should know that, given what you had to do to get your GT3.

but the GT3 was quite small numbers and no chance of getting a car later for list.

you remember the old GT4 was £64k the new ones a tad pricy to still have a few flaws imo, hence I said rather move brands and get something under list by a big chunk, and if you wanted a GT4 later on I am sure you will see cars under list in 2 years.

have fun now in some thing else , don't play games etc etc, I would never play games again, I asked for a Spdyer on launch day , got sucking of teeth , walked out and bought another car that same day. The cars are not that good to pay overs for or subcome to part ex and finance black mail.

IF you can get one list and not have to take finance and do a part ex then all good, you might only loose £5k PA running a £100k car which is ok.

pay overs or take finance and a GT4 might cost you >£30k over 2 years, it's a big difference.

I am £25k down on the GT3, some people are £100k down on RS models is what it is.
