Camen S 987.2 Bose head unit
Discussion
Hi
I'm considering a Cayman S which I found nearby but I wanted to ask about the stereo. In the ad, it says it is a Bose stereo (I think this means speakers and that odd fibre optic connected amp) and that it has "Bluetooth telephone preparation". There are some remote buttons on the steering wheel. For sure, this means the unit can operate a phone via Bluetooth. I assume this means "hands free". However, my real question is does it support audio streaming via Bluetooth?
It's very hard to find out about these units. Most threads talk about replacing them with £1000+ double DIN units, and discuss the features you will lose (such as ability to fade front to rear, or the warning beeps from the reversing sensor). I'm not interested in these threads as they do not address the capabilities of the Porsche unit.
Here is a link to the ad's picture to help you identify the model. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/VVAAAOSw-LJeVVON/s-...
Thanks

PS, I think the answer is "no, it does not stream" but what can you tell me about the capabilities of it otherwise?

I have a 2010 CS with a Bose upgrade. I am not a music purist so the sound quality is just fine for me. I have to plug my phone in to the aux port to the rear of the armrest and choose 'aux' from the source menu on the sound system and Robert et ton oncle. Play all the stuff you like from your phone or MP3/4. I know nothing of bluetoothing sounds to the unit. Maybe ask the vendor? I have hands free phone use via the installed screen but I think your steering wheel gives you a truly hands free experience. The vendor should be able to tell you.The steering wheel may well be the 'multi-function' type but I've never seen one so can't comment.
If you buy you will love the car! I'm on my second.

In that pic it does not look like it was optioned with the PCM touchscreen, so the experience may differ.
On my Cayman the bluetooth phone prep allows you to make & recieve calls, phonebook & recent caller list are stored on the PCM so calls can also be initiated through the PCM or stalk on the steering wheel (and controlled on the digital display below rev counter).
As the other poster mentions the way to play music is via the Aux input. I have bought a little Aux to bluetooth reciever which negates the need for wires & the connection is pretty much flawless.
On the 987.1 units there is a hack where you can force the phone to connect to the PCM & stream music. Videos on YouTube show how to do that. The only way to do something similar on 987.2, to my knowledge, is to fit an aftermarket unit.
