Hi all, thinking of getting a 987 as a daily drive. Been reading all the pros and cons and understand it a 15 year old car so will need maintaining as I will be putting around 18k on it a year. Always think a car should be used and not stuck in a garage and as such it’s all the better for being used. Will the 987 of this age do the daily drive bit? Also I have been talking to the dealer on this car. It has been serviced every two years up to 2019 and will be serviced again before purchase. The only thing I would have liked to see is a load of paper work for work done but it only has the service book stamps....Also only has one key plus the plastic one...is this an issue? Thinking I should get it inspected first by a specialist. Is this recommended and are there any close to this dealer ? The dealer was very helpful when I spoke to them but not heard of them before.I am going from a 2013 Mercedes C250 diesel which has the miles creeping up so need to sell now and always fancied a Boxster but realise that I’m going for a reasonably modern car to something much older. Thanks for you thoughts in advance.

Spec looks a tad basic at that price.

Thanks Phil....Think I agree after looking at others. For me it's more about the condition, history and miles as I will be putting a few on it as a daily drive....

I wouldn't get too hung up on the mileage, they generally need maintenance at all the usual intervals, the engines can last or need a rebuild regardless.
The one listed is more like S money I think.

Why not just get a high mileage one for under 7k GBP?

If you are going to take a low-miles and turn it into a high-miles, why pay the premium?

High miler here on eBay

Just to give an example of how mileage may affect value, I'm not sure I would be brave enough though!

Correct an S (3.2) preferably for that money. Plus it’s been tarted up a bit red callipers etc.

I'd also be looking a 3.2 for that money. Cheaper car tax too if pre March 2006.

Also, don't forget the gen 2 with the 2.9 engine either. You would have to up the budget a bit and accept higher miles but I'm sure there's deals to be had out there.

Thanks all for the replies. Think this is not the car for me......I did think it was probably over priced but you have all just confirmed that. The search continues.

Those lobster claws don’t look like 19s to me, so likely reps as well.

See what you mean as they don’t fill the arches as well as 19’s should...

7 previous owners for a low mileage car just does not seem right either.

Perfectly normal for a Porsche, especially a 15 year old one. I've seen 5 year old cars with this many owners, people who buy porsches often swop and change regular, me included

Mine's an April 05 car and has the uprated bearing. The changeover appears to have been around March 05.

Indeed. Sports steering wheel aside I'm struggling to see any options at all. Edit: ah yes - climate.

From the engine number. Admittedly no substitute for inspection, but still. I know of another owner who has inspected theirs of around the same date and confirmed the larger bearing. As you say go for a later car to take the guesswork out.

In my case it was the right car in the right place at the right price, and it went through a PPI fine, so weighing all that it made sense.

As a long term 2005 987 2.7 Boxster owner I would'nt say that car is overpriced given its low mileage, worth a look if your interested, alloys would need addressing and might be room for a deal if the dealers friendly.Specialist inspection always worth it on these as it can throw up all the things folk don't think to look out for such as coolant tubes, steering racks, door membranes, exhaust manifolds etc etc.Everyone bangs on and on about the IMS issue these days but actual failures account for a tiny percentage of the cars on the road..Try to view and drive a few 987's as you'll be suprised at how different the same model can feel depending on mileage and how its been driven and looked after.Approach miley 987's with caution as although they can take the miles need to see lots of evidence of a caring owner or it can get expensive!

Thanks that's really helpful. Dealer has given me a px price which is where I thought it would be and no more room for any money off. I would want an inspection but not sure would get one in the current climate so probably worth waiting before I take the plunge.
