So after just over 3k and 6 months of ownership of my 2019 Cayman I just wanted to share my thoughts.

Being 40 something and with a new OPC opening in my town last year I had always wanted to own and spec my own Porsche. It felt this was the right opportunity. The garage is owned by a family who have bought many of BMW’s so I knew I would get well looked after (which I did!!).

After trying both a Boxster and a Cayman each for a couple of days, I decided the Cayman suited my needs better. It is used as a daily driver (10-12k per annum) but I do really look after them. My intention was to spec a base car to my own needs keep it for 2-3 years and hopefully enjoy the Porsche experience an ownership to then move up to 911 (992). When I was spec’ing the car I did have the choice of a used GTS or a showroom Cayman T, both were very nice cars and good offers but just didn’t have everything I needed (isofix especially important for the school run, and folding door mirrors to ensure I can get it into the garage each night!).

The wait from ordering to arriving was painful as I am sure most of you will have experienced at some point but having waited 40 years another 5 months wasn’t going to harm me.

The car is arrived mid November and my time with it has flown by. Everyday morning I flick the garage lights on and open the door and turn that key, I love the experience. Yes I know some don’t like the 4 flat turbo engine (but I have come from many a BMW diesel engines) so I am happy. I love the handling the way it wants you to push it that bit hard each time. I never return from a journey without a smile, god knows what you guys are like with your S, T, RS / GT3, GT4 etc. One worry I had was the ride, given I have had numerous slipped discs in my back and I am running standard suspension I did have concerns, but its really comfy and no complaints so far. (I did a 200 mile round trip and it was fine).

Talking of complaints, have I got any? Surprisingly not, the paint I feel is a little soft and you only need to look at it before it has a slight swirl. I have a slight whistle when the spoiler raises at over 70mph on the motorway (not sure if this is a common fault?) but post CV-19 lockdown I will pop it back to my dealer for them to look at. I know the information screen / sat nav are now a bit dated compared to a 992 / Maycan etc but it works great for my needs.

Overall I love it, I have had a few waves and thumbs up which is nice, I love being part of the Porsche community (I was looking forward to a few trips to Oulton Park this year to watch some club racing..that will have to wait), but every time I put that key into my hand I realise how lucky I am.

I know that some of guys have amazing cars and I appreciate seeing them posted on here but in times like this we need to appreciate what we have..

Thanks for reading
Ken

Still, it's been fun doing click and collect in it.

Looks great. Great car. A lot of utter nonsense written about the superb engine in these forums by jealous owners of the slower, older 981 version which I used to own before upgrading to a better car. Thankfully we have now passed those days.

Nice. I remember waiting 7 months for my 987 back in 2005.

The day I picked it up and headed off into the countryside for a couple of hundred miles of happy motoring is still a pleasant memory.
